Master bedroom spruce up!

last month

Loving my new bedroom but it needs some sprucing up! Would love some help. We love warm and cozy with maybe a pop of color. The wall behind the beds is a light beige. The beds are not symmetrical (this drives me crazy!) .. For now they're staying that way. We would love a place for books and some ideas for nice nightstands with hidden storage. Also, would love ideas for where to place hamper 🤷. Tia!!!!

Get a head board - 1 for both beds. Get better bedding. I would use 1 coverlet/comforter over both beds. The bedding will give you the pop of color. Not sure you have the space for night stands - how would you open the closet doors? Large art over the bed. Faux roman shades for the windows.

Have you done a big purge of your closet belongings? It is a ton of space. I'd think you could get a hamper in there. I don't see how you have any room for book storage or nightstands. How many inches are between the bed and an open closet door?

Maybe look into headboards with hidden storage?

My thought too, hamper in the closet.

Yes have definitely thought of putting hamper in closet. It looks like a ton of space, and it is not a little... But the upper cabinets are all storage bc they are way too high to access daily. So one side for me and one side for my husband.. I will try and see if he can get rid of some of his shoes 😉

    Random thoughts:

    - I agree that you need color. I wouldn't touch those closet doors; rather, I'd paint the walls.

    - Or, instead of paint, go with wallpaper on that window wall. I love this image -- note that the wallpaper has a bit of white in it (the birds), to tie into the white walls on the side. Note too that with this eye-catching wall, they went with solid bedding. This one's kinda modern /bright, but you could do something more traditional; and because it's only one wall, it won't cost a fortune.

    - Totally agree that you need to add a headboard and upgrade the bedding -- what you have looks "college student".

    - I love the idea of a storage headboard, but I think I'd rather have a nice set of (shallow) book shelves built into the wall at the foot of the bed. Be sure you leave an adequate walking space at the foot of the bed.

    - You say the mis-match in the beds is driving you crazy. Darker bed linens might hide the "line" better. Avoid lines, which will never "match up" -- instead, an all-over floral would hide the "line" better. Aren't these beds hard to make up?

    - Definitely add night stands. Since you want to be able to open the closet doors, look for narrow styles. Ikea sells narrow night stands. One of these is 14", the other is 15" -- well, I had you two examples, but they won't upload. Google 'em, they're just basic and nice.

    - Definitely add lamps, and be sure your lamps are large enough. Alternately, consider adding hanging lamps next to your bed, so they won't eat up any of your nightstand space. Note that this pendant light isn't "built in" by an electrician -- it's plugged in /attached to the wall with a hook. Read: Inexpensive.

    - I'd lose those shades (again, they say "college student") and add floor-to-ceiling drapes in a lovely pattern to match your bedding. I'd opt for a single drape panel on each window, which would make the whole thing appear to be one large, planned area /would downplay the split bed thing. I don't 'specially love the bland colors in this image, but this is how I'd style the curtains -- I like the woven bamboo blinds too, as every room needs something organic, and the brown would tie into your ceiling beams: Weird. I can SEE the image, but it doesn't post.

    - Add one large rug that stretches under the bed -- or a 4x6 rug on each side of the bed. Since your room has so little furniture, I'd like to see layered rugs -- gives a lux look.
