For any suggestions is best to post pictures of all 4 walls in the room. Perhaps we might have suggestions other than just art on the wall.

Jan, as an artist, I beg to differ with that opinion. Perhaps for some abstract artists that’s the case… but for the most part artists have composition in mind even if it’s abstract, and there’s a right way up.😉

Having said that, of course, as the owner of the artwork, the OP can do whatever she would like with it.

Folks........It's wall decor. I doubt it is a 5k piece of commissioned original art.

It needs no reverence, just a re hang.........and it is hardly a sin.

Even galleries with fabulous artists?that artist will often allow a buyer to CHOOSEA signature location and hanging orientation

I agree, I don’t think this particular piece needs reverence. However, it is true that sometimes an abstract painting has a “right side up”. Really depends on the artist.

Just lurking here but may have been mentioned and I missed, but if you have wall paint left over or get a sample then I wanted to suggest painting your air vent there. It would disappear a bit nicer on your wall there.

Here are some inexpensive ideas to warm up your living room:

1. Turn the art work on the wall to the horizontal position with the black area on the right.

2. If there's room, move what looks like a desk in the corner to the left (or somewhere else in the room) and put a tall plant in that corner. A palm would work well and they are usually inexpensive at Lowe's.

If it's not tall enough to sit on the floor you can find nice white planters with legs at Lowe's, Walmart, HomeGoods, etc. that are not expensive. Just be sure to place a saucer of some kind under the pot (or inside a planter like the one below) to avoid water draining and ruining your floor.

3. You have a nice circular mat on the coffee table - looks like woven straw, perhaps? Set the TV remote, the coasters, and a small live plant in a white planter on top of it. These simple changes will perk up your room.

I would turn the art to be horizontal, replace the table lamp for a more imposing size, move-up the armchair so that it's part of a conversation area, and I don't know what the wood piece of furniture is next to the armchair on the left but perhaps replace that with a nice tall plant, replace the pillows with a few coordinated colour ones, and place some decor on the coffee table.

Agree with much of the above. Here are a few options I tried for art. All leave the existing abstract in its vertical orientation, which to my eyes it seems to need. Some move it to behind the chair and add a horizontal piece above the sectional, one leaves it where it is and adds something vertical (here an Asian scroll) behind the chair. You can see what you think.
