Would have done what? Nothing happened to the flooring, it’s a step down into the living area.

I asked because the floor looks like one run. Consider doing an application on along the top floor to alert guests there is a transition.

Maybe I should of worded it differently for clarity.

All I want to know is whether I should hang curtains or go with blinds, etc. Most of the time on this app, I get unsolicited advice.

IMO the arched bookcase details are wrong for the room. I would simplify them. See second picture.

Looks like a nice warm inviting space. Perhaps explore having woven wood/bamboo blinds for the narrow windows that allow top down and bottom up adjustments, something that compliments with the shelves and flooring tones. Use the sheer style curtains on the bigger windows and include the same woven wood blinds if preferred for balance.

You obviously like the light from the windows. Do you feel you need some sort of coverage for privacy? Or light control? Or decoration?

I’m not a pro but those narrow windows look like they don’t need - and shouldn’t have - any treatments. They look great as is with that entire wall. If you do something to those, it’ll definitely take away from the pretty arches.
Maybe just a long rod and curtains for the window to the left. Something simple, but enough panels to be “full” looking. Without seeing the furniture in this room, we can suggest color or style of drapes.m

You may want to consider inside mount solar shades.

I agree with Gina. Solar shades or silhouette shades would look nice and still provide sunlight to filter in.

Do you want to let in as much light as possible and still have privacy when you need it?

In this case, I would suggest solar shading.

We really love our light filtering roll down shades. They let in light and aren’t blackout but block bright sun and also warm the room when cold
