There is something to be said about open space, and the balance between it and and the built environment. Many times older developments have a delicate balance of how each structure related to its lot and the other lots creating a community with continuity. and balance Some jurisdictions try to preserve the sense of the established community through zoning restrictions that restrict overbuilding of sites and the surrounding environment, some do not. Many times property owners think they want something they saw in a magazine or on the internet or on HGTV that will not necessarily fit well with the surroundings. I assume the computer generated renderings posted do not accurately represent the site, but I fail to see how secondary unit complements original home and blends beautifully with the natural surroundings. It looks like it is based upon current trends.

I have property that I plan to add an addition to that could be rented out but it is more sympathetic to the surrounding environment.

Some states have laws regarding the use of the term "architect" or "architecture" by people or businesses that are not licensed as an architect by the state in which they practice.

I have not done an in-depth review of Washington State law regarding the practice of architecture but it looks like you need to make changes to your website and the services you provide.

Coach houses and laneway houses are very common in Vancouver but they eat up your yard and it feels like tue two homes are living on top of one another. I would only ever do with a deep lot so each had an outdoor space and was well separated.

I don't consider the above example a successful design in areas of access, exterior usability and privacy. The project seems unrealistic based on the unused open undeveloped space around the property. Changing the orientation of the structure would go a long way.
