I think what’s bothering me, and maybe you as well is the visible cement foundation. It seems like a lot. Would you consider covering it with something?

Thanks littlemissdena! I appreciate your input. When you say "cement foundation", do you mean the patio area where the chairs are? Or do you mean the wall below the windows - the stucco of the house?

I also think it looks great (—and I don’t mind the stucco siding! -It’s a nice tidy home and yard). But I can see what you mean about the kangaroo paws directly adjacent to your chair/ patio area. You’re in a different climate than me, but I’m sure any number of your lower-growing/ mounding perennials could easily be divided if you wanted to plant a division or two in front and to the side of that specific kangaroo paws plant.

Your plants look healthy with beautiful blooms. The bed seems a bit shallow and maybe getting crowded as the plants fill in. Have you considered making the bed deeper?

Thanks Design Fan. I am not able to make the bed any deeper right now, but I could take some plants out to give them all more space. I have also thought about putting the taller plants together in the back row towards the middle of the bed, and the shorter plants in the front.

Oh, it’s stucco. Ok. Yes. I’d do more of that same siding if you can get some. Or possibly look at some stone. Maybe limewater stone…?

What are the tall shrubs? They look like boxwoods or Texas privet. They both will fill in the depth of the planter. It looks like you have azalea plants. I would put those together between the tall shrubs. Hopefully those get 3 or 4 feet tall and will cover some of the stucco.

Move the pink Kangaroo Paws in front of the tall shrub to the right. The pink Kangaroo Paws stay pretty small, so I think they are prefect below the window. I would move the purple plant in between the pink Kangaroo Paws in front of the window. Leave the pink Kangaroo Paws in the corner near your gate. Having those spaced out will move your eye through the flower bed.

Use the small white flower to edge the front of the planter. That will again move the eye through the flower bed.

Your pink, purple, and white color theme is very pretty.

Don't start pulling things apart. It is like picking a thread on a sweater. Your garden looks great as it is.

Plant a wee bit of bright green ground cover in the tiny triangle of wood chips in front of your kangaroo paws. It will trick your eye into making the kangaroo paws feel like the are not the front most item. Creeping Jenny, perhaps, if it works in your zone and your conditions.

For under the higher window, you need a few more slightly taller plants and it's good you have the two nice tall ones. The Kangaroo Paw should be moved to that area. It will continue to grow and it is crowded in that spot.

So you end up with about the same amount of stucco showing under each window.

To my eye, the two tall green plants break up the flow and the gradual increases in height front to back. I'd replace them with some things about the height of the KPs.

The tall thing on the left maybe can stay, depending on how large it will get. The middle one definitely bothers me. Just removing it would help, but it could be replaced with something that isn't higher than the stucco.

I know that starting to move things around might not be a good idea . . . but if I were to make moves, here's what I could do to put the taller items in the back (and thus cover the stucco more) and the shorter ones in the front:

back row from left to right: KP, shorter Icy Blue, taller Icy Blue, KP & KP (these last two would be centered under the bigger picture window

front row from left to right: smaller bright pink azalea (two of them side by side), larger light pink azalea, purple ground cover, larger light pink azalea, smaller bright pink azalea (two of them side by side

and the white ground cover spread throughout the front row plants for contrast and interest

Plant choices are personal. Some people like just one or two species and a formal look. You like mixed flowers so I won't tell you what to plant...you know what you like.

The only plant needs moving is the Kangaroo Paw closest to the porch and the other taller could be trimmed.

None of the plants need moving at this time as none are too big for their location. btw, the only trimming that should be done on kangaroo paws is to remove the dead flower stalks. Otherwise, they are not pruned.

Question: are all of these plants at their maturity? Since everything grows at different rates, I would be hesitant to move anything if it is not at it mature height. Gardens need time.

Right now, I think it looks great! I like the irregularity and randomness of it. I bet the solar lights make it really pretty at night

I would not prune KP but I would move the one KP before it gets too established, if you want to.

I meant top the one that someone said is above the stucco...if you want to.

I think the general advice from lower to higher is sound but you don't want a hedge look. A softer look is achieved with some variation in height.

I think it's beautifully done and I wouldn't change anything. Yes, you are overthinking this.

I lthink the bed could have been deeper from front to back but the whole thing as it is is lovely you want filled in and growing thta is the whole point . As plants mature sometimes they out grow a bed and need moving but I see no issue here right now .
