Ann, you had so much water! I’m glad it’s receding and hope your plants will be okay. Your hostas in pots are looking good.

I still have a million leaves to take off the flower beds. I planted a lot of small bulbs last fall that are trying to break through. Crocus and some daffodils are starting.

I haven’t seen any hosta pips, but they could be underneath the leaves.

Every spring I kick off the season by planting pansies in a pot on my deck. It makes me happy to see them out the window.

I’ve cleaned up along the driveway rocks. I pushed my zone a bit last spring and planted a Skutellaria – Cherry Skullcap between the rocks and the driveway, where I thought it might be warmer. I liked it and would want more, but no signs of life yet. I trimmed some lavender. Then I started on the roses and tweaked my back, so I’m taking a break for a few days. Maddening how one awkward twist can do that. ☹

But I have my vegetable garden ready to go when the time comes.

Over a month ago I found crocosmia bulbs at Costco. Also, more liatris. It’s way too early to plant them here, so I potted the crocosmia because I don’t want to lose those. I’m hoping the liatris bulbs hold on until planting time, but I may pot them up, too.

This is how far along the Bleeding Hearts (Lamprocapnos) and Brunnera are.

I also bought some crocosmia bulbs today at Costco. I think I am going to try some in pots. Did some reading and found they can be invasive in ideal settings.

The planting instructions say to space bulbs 12”. There are SIXTY bulbs in the bag….omg. I wonder how invasive they could be in zone 5 …..grow in 5-9. Laurie any input from you on this???

Wow, how much behind my garden is... Love all those spring pics! ERC is very slow growing hosta for me, I used to have large one but it dwindled to nothing after move and several transplants. Beautiful specimen!

Am glad my mulch is thick because we still have frost and I am not ready for anything to come out. My older puppy being sick makes him very needy and I spend lots of time just sitting with him. I did put my hoop house up and moved hostas there. I am having a lot of problems with growing veggies this year and find it very frustrating. Just bought another potting mix to try although am not sure it is a source of the problem.

Lisa I hope your back is better. It is frustrating to lose any time in spring when you should be out enjoying the emerging plants. Yours are really popping. So glad you got Crocosmia and hopefully the weather will cooperate and you can get the Liatris in the ground.

Sherry so glad you got Crocosmia too. They are not invasive here. Sixty is a lot! When I started mine I put 3 to a gallon pot which meant they were only about an inch apart. When I planted them I placed 3 pots about a foot apart. (I am zone 5 Canadian so more like zone 4 on the USDA map. Everyone here was having to lift them in the fall and there was no way I was doing that. I planted mine about 4" deep - way deeper than you normally would. They take longer to come up but they have been in the ground for about 20 years.) You should be fine but since you have so many you can experiment. Plant some a couple of inches deeper than you should and others normally (3x the depth of the corm.) Of course you won't know until they have spent a winter in pots or the ground.

lindalana I am still having frost too and nothing is up. Heck I still have snow on the shady side of my yard. I hope your pup is doing better. It is so hard when they are sick.

I do hope all of your plants emerge. It is still early.

Laurie..yay the water is gone!..having a nearby tornado left an unbelievable amount of sticks..I'm blessed my trees were ok..pics from yesterday..we need to use the chipper!!..

Korean Spice is just starting to bloom..love the fragrance..so glad to find 3 new ones last year..these are pics of my oldest one..

these bulbs are still sweet but the blooms aren't perfect..Undulata Albomarginatas are up..I caught a squirrel in the concrete urn after I pulled the annuals out..I grabbed stones to keep them out..

good info about crocosmia..I like those..
