The fireplace is a nice natural feature in the room. It adds a warming element in the clean fresh space.

I would leave it as is.

Nothing wrong with the fireplace in this room except the mantle is too high and the TV should NOT be placed above the fireplace.

I would spend my money on the flooring. I would remove the wall to wall carpet and replace with wood flooring and select a better are rug for the room.

Here's how the room could look with a better arrangement of items.

Your TV should be placed on the wall opposite the sofa at a much lower height

Lower the height on the mantle

Raise the drapery rods and extend the length of the draperies

Larger bolder art behind the sofa

Large contrasting art above the hearth to command attention in the room

Place wood cabinets on either side of the fireplace with art above

If you need moderately priced cabinets for either side of the fireplace, consider these from TARGET. Two sizes available depending on how much space you have to work with.

Just spitballing here but you could paint the wall on either side of the fireplace an accent color closer to the brick color or to complement it. It’s not theprettiest brick

Here’s more pics of the room. The TV has to stay on the mantle due to the cut out window in the wall. the couches are super deep so they don’t fit another way unfortunately. Also planning to darken the built in shelf with gel stain.

My first thought was the same as Beverley’s. Art there instead of the television.

I’m also open to rug suggestions!
