It looks like it all flows really well including the floor - very pretty.

I would try adding more decor, accessories, lighting/lamps before investing in painting. Maybe start with window treatments in a color/pattern and use that as the point of departure to inform other choices throughout the space. The ladies here are absolute magicians with design/mood boards. Hopefully someone pops in with some ideas.

Because why not try shopping first just save the receipts and take stuff back if it doesn't work.

To lighten from all the gray of the cabinets I suggest a warm white paint for the walls, something that coordinates with your countertop. Also white for the backsplash.Then I suggest you replace the glass pendants for white ones giving them more presence in the room and contrast with the cabinets as well as replacing all the black hardware for polished nickel.. You can hang roman shades on your kitchen window for colour and cushions on your counter stools. Everything else looks well coordinated, floors, cabinets, and sofa. Here's the idea...

I agree, leave the gray. Add some accessories in a brighter more cheerful color and bring some of your personality into it.

I feel like gray is my birthright. I was born and raised in (and have moved back to) Cleveland, OH, ranked the fifth major US city for lack of sun. For reference purposes, fewer than half of our days (45%) are sunny and the fourth grayest city is Seattle, WA.

I completely understand the desire to break free of the gray that can seemingly overtake everything. It’s not a black hole, but a gray one that I worry about! That said, the trick really is getting the right color on the right surface. A neutral wall color can make room for joyous additions of color elsewhere.

A white wall paint will make your gray cabinets look grayer. Consider painting (or keeping) the walls a gray to match your cabinets, then choosing other more colorful elements for the rest of the space.

The image below is one of my favorite colorful kitchens. Here they pair white walls, cabinets, and backsplash with wonderful orange-shaded pendants, glorious teal barrel stools and dining chair/bench upholstery, and a roman shade fabric with both colors featured prominently. The neutrals are a perfect backdrop for wonderful splashes of color. This is not a white kitchen to my eye, but all of the permanent fixtures really are white.

With a mindful transformation, yours will no longer be a gray kitchen, but a color filled space with a gray backdrop.

A color or patterned backsplash would be very nice in your gray kitchen.

is there a far wall in the dining zone without openings or windows.....a focus wall might be nice w color, then mirror / art work etc. I would invest in something for the kitchen window w pattern/ color/texture whatever you want.....then maybe some coordinating valances at the small windows shown...good spots and not expensive w the sizes..show off hardware and some pattern/color.....You have a few ways to "insert" interest to break up the "gray" ...what you have w the same color everywhere is simply a backdrop. Get your personality in chosen spots.

Of course it looks dreary, all the lights are off. My north facing living room with soft yellow gold walls looks dreary in the morning when the lights are off. Turn on the lights and then reassess.

You might consider looking at some other kitchen designs. Please notice the stool options in the images below. We think you might find some good options for stools this way.
