We did have to seam the island. Some companies have recently come out with "Jumbo" slabs that would actually accommodate an island nearly this size, though.

any problems with the Caesarstone? I'm planning on the same but have recently seen some people complain of staining. thanks!

  • PRO
    Kitchen Studio: Kansas City

akgoott, I have heard similar stories. The product is stain resistant, and the lighter colors are more likely to stain, although it's rare. You can visit the Caesarstone website and check out their FAQ page here:

    http://www.caesarstoneus.com/en/Customer_Service/Pages/FAQ.aspx

You may also want to set your mind at ease with the product by getting a sample of the color that you want and spill the most frequent food items you consume on it to see if you notice any problems. I hope this helps!

Yes, the oven is below the hood to the right of the refrigerator. We used a 48" Blue Star Range. Thank you!

Nice kitchen! Where are the lights over the island from? Very interesting
  • PRO
    Kitchen Studio: Kansas City
The lights are from a Ship Salvage website. The homeowner provided them and was able to find them when she Googled "Fox Lights". Thank you!

Thank you for your inquiry! The cabinets are manufactured by Crystal Cabinet Works and the color chosen here is Frosty White. I do not know if it correlates with a Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams paint sample. I'm sorry that I couldn't be more help.

Also, make sure that you are choosing the color in the kitchen with the lighting that you will use (if you are changing things out to LED, for example, do not choose the color under incandescent lighting). This will help insure the color will remain the same from sample to cabinet.

Thank you for your inquiry, Sunny8! The door pulls were selected from Restoration Hardware on clearance, if I recall correctly. (They could have been Pottery Barn). They were a discontinued item. Sorry about that!

It's so fun! I am sorry, my client chose this herself, I was only responsible for the kitchen design and "hard surfaces". If you show this to an interior designer, they should be able to find it for you, though.

Thank you for the question, Bloom Realty! This is the French Villa Square doorstyle. We did this in a flush inset.

Thank you for your question! The homeowner purchased these online after doing a search for Fox Lights and Ship Yard. They were salvaged off of an old ship and she had them rewired. The company she ended up purchasing from was called Nautical Decor and she was extremely happy with the customer service. Make certain you have them rewired if they are antiques, though.

Thank you for inquiring! The range is a Blue Star and the color name is Traffic Orange. The fabric was procured by the homeowner and I'm not certain of the name of pattern or where to purchase at. Thank you!

Thank you for your inquiry! The color is a custom blend from Crystal Cabinetry called Sage. It's a very pale green and is not exact but pretty close to Benjamin Moore's Hancock Green HC-117.

The base cabinetry is a color called "Sage" by the Crystal Cabinet Works line of cabinetry. It's almost a light mint color, very refreshing! Thank you for your question!

Thank you for your inquiry! I'm sorry, the homeowner chose the fabrics and worked with another designer on this. I believe they worked with Twigs from Overland Park, KS. I hope that helps!

Thank you for your inquiry! This is a SubZero 736, however this model has been replaced with IT-36CIID. We used the stainless panels available from SubZero with the Pro style handle.

5. Orange Splashes Add Personality in KansasWith an annual tradition of making hundreds of cookies around the holidays, these homeowners wanted a large island with lots of counter space as the center of attention. Cool feature: A citrusy-orange range paired with pale green (Sage) cabinets by Crystal Cabinets creates a unique, refreshing atmosphere. Location: Kansas CitySee more of this kitchen

Photos by Matt KocourekThe problem with the kitchen before the remodel was the layout. “It just didn’t work for the family,” says designer Katie Ott of Kitchen Studio: Kansas City. The entire kitchen was taken down to the studs, and the old cabinets were repainted and used in a basement room. The new layout centers around a large island, and this is where daily food prep and holiday magic happen. The family’s favorite tradition involves baking and decorating cookies. “One of the owners sometimes makes hundreds of cookies over the holidays,” Ott says. “She wanted a place to spread them out and decorate them — the stools on the right allow her to sit down and do that.”Another owner favorite: the vintage ship lights she discovered on the Internet and had rewired to serve as pendants over the island.Island countertop: Pure White, Caesarstone
