Our new stair carpeting...

Doesn’t bother me a bit.

Over time the stairs carpet will get dirty enough it will match the rest of the carpet well! Add some artwork, or a different paint color, to the stairwell walls. It will bring the eye up and nobody will notice the difference in carpets. It is really not that bad.

Pick.....

1 Close the door, don't stare at the stair. Put something on the walls.

2 Admit the goof, rip out the stair to a much different, make NO effort to match variety. A pattern a stripe, something! A really intentional contrast.

3. An area rug at the foot of the stair

4. You'll ask.....is there another way?

It's a basement, so no biggie. There are shoulda/woulda/couldas, but at this point I'd let it go and save any money and energy for something that matters. And learn a lesson in matching--samples brought home and viewed in situ are required for good matching. Or as Jan said, an intentional contrast.

Hah! Try shampooing the basement rug lol. No seriously. The rug seems slightly lighter where the basket is.

Oh geez, they installed the WRONG carpet!!! Before they re-install it, please make sure that you like the one they are going to replace it with.
