Corner fireplace and tv unit dilemma

We just bought a house . These are old pictures of the family room the previous owners have. The tv unit is a built in so we ideally do not want to move it as we don’t know if there is flooring underneath it. But the tv is not centered. Should we mount the tv over the fireplace or try to make the tv fit in the unit. We have a bigger 65 inch tv we’d like to fit in here . But I can’t decide where to put the tv. I saw some videos and pictures. Most are going with brick wall on the fireplace and then center the tv in the tv unit. Should I also fill the gap on top to make the unit all the way to the ceiling? I’d appreciate any ideas you all have. TIA!!

The corner fireplace is enough to deal with. I would get rid of that built-in. Not too much floor to match. It is a bad location for the TV if TV is important. Also, the fireplace and the TV are two too many black holes on that wall. Add shelves and make it a bookcase otherwise. Put the TV on the long wall over a long console and have the sofa face it.

I think a redesigned built-in - something you’re showing in your last post above - makes sense. I think the current location of the tv is the right location so that furniture layout can be oriented towards both the fireplace and the tv. You just need to update the built-in shelving to accommodate the tv.

Can you remove the top shelves from the media cabinet, paint the bottom and use it as a media stand? This way you can center a larger tv there and hang it (if desired).
