How would you decorate this room?

Just bought this house and am excited to see your ideas on how you’d decorate it! I’ve also included some photos of rooms I like. Not sure what my style preference is called. I’m open to changing fan to a chandelier, changing the fireplace surround and mantle and definitely new window treatments! Flooring is new so that stays. Thanks in advance for your ideas!

    We all need more information...

    - Do you own any furniture you'll be bringing to this room?

    - If you're looking for furniture layout ideas we need:

    - a floorplan showing all dimensions, doors, entrances to the room, and windows, etc.

    - information on your lifestyle (wiil you have a TV in this room? how many people will be using this room? etc,.

You can do a layout like this. We could be more accurate with dimensions.

As far as colors, textures, etc: based on your inspiration pics, you will need to create lots of layers and textures to create the interest you see there. You can stick with those white, creamy, and light fabric tones layered with natural woods and a few darker taupe items for contrast. White/cream sofa with a soft, curved arm, chair with a subtle neutral pattern, light rug that pulls together the brighter white in the drapery in a soft pattern. Layer your white draperies over a natural wood or bamboo shade to get the naturalistic texture.

Here's the hard part: your inspo photos all include very detailed, ornate, architechtural rooms. Your space is more clean, smooth, modern. I would lean on the chandelier and layering those textures to bring more of your style into this space. If you have a big open wall without a window, you could do a large library unit or storage unit to bring some more architectural detail in the space.

Here's my design inspo for you!

@Melissa Smedley Thank you! I love this idea! Beautiful! I was thinking of talking to a contractor about adding molding for interest. I love molding!

Thanks all! I am buying new furniture for this room, but first I am hiring a contractor to add some molding like this for warmth and interest. As for color, I prefer SW Pure White and let pillows, throws and plants add color. I am bringing a very large gold chandelier similar to the one in this photo.

Your room is contemporary and not conducive to installing moldings because of all the strange shapes. Cove molding is not usually installed on vaulted ceiling.

You could add faux beams to the ceiling to add texture and interest.

You could extend the beams to the walls if you like that style.

Your other option is to add wood lathe strips to the walls to create a Board and Batten appearance in the room.

I agree, board and baton or shiplap/ beadboard are more appropriate choices than the molding. The molding feels too traditional.

    Really interesting suggestions. Thank you!

First you just need the room diagram as suggested, with doors/ openings/ windows marked. Also what will the room be used for. Is it the main family room and TV room? Doing TV over that mantel is quite high, so would be good to consider swing- down options, or a different placement, if have another wall. Or how close to fireplace it can be, if mantel lowered ( don’t know what kind of fireplace you have). Then, more clues on who’s using seating. Can be a beautiful room!

    Thank you @marmiegard_z7b
It is the family room and yes, it will be used for tv and gathering. I agree the tv above the fireplace would be too high. We will put a television on a beautiful credenza on a different wall.

You can use it as a relaxation, game, and media room too.

Love your ideas but without seeing all the walls and having a floor plan showing dimensions it's difficult to determine a furniture layout.
