Help with Feature wall in bathroom

Hi all 🙂 Any advice would be awesome.

I’ve been gifted some awesome wallpaper, not enough to do the whole room but enough for half/a feature wall. It’s a loud wallpaper and I think it could add something to the room. For any walls not papered, I would repaint in either the base colour of the wallpaper or a complementary colour - still figuring that out too.

I’ve labelled the walls for ease, but my original thought was to do walls A and C. It’s a small area so I don’t think it would look overwhelming. However, my only concern is on the corner of walls C and D there’s multiple edges due to enclosed pipework. Would I wallpaper all walls facing the same direction or just do the whole thing? Also, the window ledge?

I do have JUST about enough to do wall B but wouldn’t have enough to do any other. This would likely leave me with one side of the window ledge wallpapered and the opposing window ledge not.

Not sure if I’ve explained this clearly but to me it makes sense!

Any ideas would be much appreciated as I’m going back and forth and not making a decision.

Photos attached of the room and labelled walls. Also a photo of the wallpaper

Ps. I know the risks of paper and mould in bathrooms. Ventalation is good in the room, but will take all precautions if going ahead with this

What’s the vertical pattern repeat distance? Is this prepasted or peel & stick paper?

    A single roll is comprised of 4 x 3m lengths, each 45cm wide (4 x 9'10'' panels, each 1'5'' wide).

I'd be pasting it on the wall.

I can measure the walls if you think it would help? :)

What I’m asking is about the pattern repeat. It needs to be matched row to row across when more than one length is placed next to another. If not done, you’ll have a zig zag effect across the wall. Matching wastes some of the paper. Have you used an online paper calculator? If not, I’d be sure to read that & learn how to calculate paper need to wall size as your first step. Papering that bathroom with all the items on the wall to paper around will be hard. Too hard for me. Wall B would have most impact since paper would be reflected in the mirror but that towel warmer thing on wall will be a nightmare to paper around unless you remove the whole piece. Paper would hardly be seen in wall C - too small - or wall A once towels hung. Do you have an expanse of wall in either a bedroom or entry where you could use it on one longer wall? It is a great design on the paper. Looks kind of like a William Morris paper.

    It will definitely be dark.

Any thoughts on just painting the whole room a soft creamy white and papering the ceiling? SW Alabaster

I would paper D and paint the other walls, especially the window wall and the door wall C & B. (including all the trim and the door). Start by sampling colors, this would be my first pick. SW Oak Leaf Brown. Paint the whole room, even the wall(s) you plan to apply the wallpaper.

^ well said, I'd go for B if I could remove the warmer entirely

I love the wallpaper, but I don't think it goes with the style of the bathroom very well, and only applying it on one or two walls is going to look like you ran out instead of a design choice. Do you have a powder room where you could use it more effectively? Strongly patterned wallpaper is frequently used in powder rooms.

@KW PNW Z8 - I will ensure to check! I would be able to remove the towel rack for wallpapering.

I was considering Wall A (removing the the hooks on the wall for good and potentially putting them on the back of the door instead) and C so they are opposing. But that might not work. I thought the shape of wall C would be interesting to draw attention to but maybe it would be too awkward.

@Lyn Nielson - I love that oak leaf brown!

In all honesty, I'm desperate to get rid of the pink and this wallpaper fell into my lap so I want to make it work. I do have some scraps of other wallpapers that were also gifted to me so if I were only to do D I may be able to use different colours.

At present I think I really just need to paint all of it and see the vibe mocking up the room with the paper against the colour

if anything, I would paint all of C , the window and all of the space behind the toilet would help make the toilet disappear into the white wall.

I would even paint the two steps to the solid wall white, so that you have a single flat surface above the vanity to feature. Doing wall(s) D & A.

The reason I say just paint wall B is because you can clean up that wall by painting everything on that wall and have a nice clean wall with all the attachments (Towel warmer, toilet paper holder, heating pipe)

I agree that painting out the pink is a great first step, a high adhesive Primer, like KILZ® will make the finish worth the prep. Have Fun!

@Lyn Nielson I might have to check back in with you all once it's done. Thankfully it's bank holiday weekend so I might get on it!

I'm going to check out that oak leaf brown. But also have these I want to test.

    #788c84 - smoky blue-green

    #524051 - smoky aubergine

    #a9b1a4 - soft sage

I'll keep you all updated. You've all been awesome at straightening out my confusion!

If you don't have enough wallpaper for all the walls here's the look of doing the ceilings and painting all walls in a warm white. Use colours from the wallpaper for your bath towels.

Unless it is a vinyl paper, I strongly suggest you do not use it in a small bathroom that gets used daily for showers.

Is there an exhaust fan in the bathroom?

What is the cleaning code/rating for the paper?

What do the papers specs say about installing in a damp space?

@chispa - It's from a company my friend works at. The website itself says it's fine for bathrooms but they recommend a clear decorators varnish over it to increase protection.

He has some in his bathroom and has done for a long time with nil issue.

The bathroom itself has a ventilation fan and the windows are open pretty much all year round (plus I live alone so I shower with the door open - and I'm a quick showerer!).

An update though - Taken on advice and the pink is gone and it already looks 100x better.

I'm hoping this gives me more of an idea of layout. Regardless of if I use the paper or not. I'm happy with the curent update!

    Love the new wall color!

for your storage piece to the right of the toilet, you could likely find baskets that fit the square openings and then all those personal products would be hidden - since it is a smaller bathroom, being brutal about hiding and removing clutter will go a long way I think

Your bathroom looks great with all the walls painted. I'd leave everything as it now is, no wallpaper needed.
