If you're 14 you're old enough to use layout tools offered online for your drawings.

The sooner you begin to use them the better you will be at presenting your concepts.

The very simplest of floor plans, like you see below, illustrate walls, windows, doors, room labels/sizes and, in the planning stages, show furnishing layouts so you can be sure your architecture is actually designed to be used the way people live.

Yes Beverly is right about learning some CAD or 3D modeling software. High school students at my school are learning Revit which the program my husband's architectural firm uses. But my husband says their best architects can sketch out their concepts with a pencil so keep a sketchbook of your ideas. The second sketch you posted was easier to read but the circle for the circular stair was too small in scale. It takes time to figure out the scale and proportions of things.

I agree with learning CAD or other 3-D modeling software, but I think you are doing the right thing by doing Hand Drafting first.

Too many houses are designed using software by people who just plug different things together but don't really understand basic design concepts, and with software, you can easily design a house with 35 corners and the program will figure out how to put a roof on it.

I would also recommend getting some books of historic floor plans and looking at those.

Also in my design studies we were also given the outline of an existing building and required to design something to fit within that space.

If you start with a rectangle and have to design reasonable rooms to fit within that rectangle, it is a challenge, much harder than being able to string a bunch of rooms together and seeing what you end up with.

Speak to your high school counselor. They should have resources for you including the best classes to take in high school to prepare you for architecture school. They also might be able to put you in contact with local architectural firms that offer summer internships for high school students.

I never use software for design but I am old and love sitting down to drafting table to draw. I do agree in this time CAD can be agreat tool. When i was young and played designer I had an imaginary family to design for it introduces the element of desgn that you will always be working with. When you post a plan here we need thespaces named all windows and doorways marked too. Architects design to fit a plot of land often too. So a bit of a whole package.. Architecture is never ending choice for a career so the more you learn now the better student you will be. I do agree the basics are a must just like in every career path you choose . I actually like to go to the library and get books on architecture not just sitting on the internet there is still something to be said for an actual book.
