exterior trim ideas saint augustine

Hi! I just bought a 1950s green home in St. Augustine, FL. It’s a corner lot facing southwest and gets great light. I’ll be patching and refreshing the green soon but, I’d love ideas for trim, fascia, and soffit colors that will make the house pop and feel happy—something that works with the green and mid-century style. Thanks in advance!

I'd keep the trim white. The brown shutters are not a win. It depends on your appetite for color. A traditional approach is black or white. A light mint green would be bright and not too radical. A very pale lavender would look great and pop, but not everyone would choose that (I would). A pale peach would be lovely with your door. If you DIY, it won't cost more than a can or two of paint and if you don't like it, you can repaint.

A light green or a light mauve I have been leaning towards!! The “shutters” I am afraid to remove them and expose what could be underneath 🙈so what can I do with those? I’m thinking sanding and sealing or staining or painting? Thoughts? And thank you very much!

Peek behind a shutter in the most inconspicuous spot. If you put them back, whatever you uncover will be covered up again.

On the MCM look, that door and the garage wood seem a dated MCM update to me. In CA, those wood garage doors fade so quickly. Also, is that a covered porch? Keeping it? I would clear the shutters no matter the cost, and the old landscaping and scattered stuff, then take a fresh look before deciding.

YES, the green paint has weathered over the years and when you take off the shutters, the color will be darker, but do it anyway, The shutters make the house look cheap; vinyl (yuck) and they do not fit the windows.

I don't think the shutters make the house look cheap. They look like vinyl to me. If you want to remove them at go for an MCM look, that's a direction you could go, but I don't think it's the only option. Lisedv did a nice photoshop, but I note that they made everything a lot lighter. Your photo had the porch in shade. Of course, your house looks better with a bright porch. But most of the difference is photoshop, not the design and color changes. If you made those changes and took a picture with the same lighting, your porch would still look dark.

@Sigrid The OP said she's making repairs, patches on the walls and refreshing the green. It looks like the green needs an entire paint job, that's why I suggested the lighter green with a brighter looking porch since it has a wide overhang above..

I appreciate all of your input. Leaning towards the pale lavender or a pale peach. Plus I’m thinking about the shutter removal I just can’t imagine taking them off because the house would be very plain. I should also mention that this is very much a DIY and some help from a handyman on a low budget (basically pay as I go) thank you all
