There could be a lot of suggestions on what you could do with the space you have shared. More photos would be helpful. In the meantime, try a few inexpensive changes before you spend money on painting the walls. Wall decor...gone, pad under rug will make it look richer.

The trim, at the floor, honestly, is the beast, not the beauty. Paint it the wall color, in a satin finish.

While you have the paint brush and paint out, do the wall vents and the switch covers.

Thank you for the suggestion of painting the trim but unfortunately that’s not an option. I have entirely too much trim to be painting. And it’s in really perfect condition. So far I believe SW snowbound, SW white duck or BM white dove will go with my red tones and green carpet. I want to add blues with the green carpet.
