Inspiration please, I think we like rustic but open canvas

Looking for ideas, we are refacing cabinets to a similar color to tone down the orange, keeping the existing layout except thinking of removing microwave and doing a vent or shelving.

Leaning toward a brick or stone backsplash.

Looking to make this a coffee area with shelves?

appreciate any input, so overwhelming

, interior design is not my area of expertise!

Paint color has to go!

Where will you put your microwave if you go with a regular hood? Will you be able to reach the coffee items on the shelf above your coffee nook spot from the sink side of the peninsula?

You had posted all of this a little while ago, I remember your post. What happened? Seems to me you had several suggestions including mine.

If you've added a question to your original post (ex. coffee corner), you should always continue on the original post and not start a new one so that we, who give free advice, don't have to start from scratch on our ideas.

rustic...but open canvas? explain what that means. you have a natural setting it appears. get new honey maple doors for the uppers without the arch...some ready for glass. add top trim across the uppers . get black hardware and go spend on some honed granite and it will look natural or rustic enough. yes paint the walls of course. refacing is not a good idea. your cabinets are not orange.....honey maple in good shape that hasnt even yellowed ...too bad they have those arches on the uppers...thats the only thing that doesnt work.

Thank you , I appreciate everyones feed back sorry for jumping around and posting in more than one spot. This is my first time having the opportunity to update a kitchen and I am nervous to make any design mistakes.

I think we are going with a light counter, caeserstone cascata, we are having the cabinets refaced to a lighter oak similar the bottom cabinets in the post - the doors will have no arch, square frame and will be flat , they will be putting trim above the cabinets, Oil brushed copper hardware. The cabinets are in good shape thankfullly. The shelves above the peninsula are more for decoration,

We are removing the above the oven microwave, plan to re do our pantry and put it in there. I had mentioned putting shelving above the stove but after researching and seeing the posts from others I agree I need to have a hooded vent, and I have seen some reasonably priced ones, just hope I find one that goes with everything.

In a previous post I mentioned we were going go with a brick tile backsplash and above cabinets to the ceiling, but the feedback I got stated it would be difficult to clean and that brick looks outdated, so not sure about the back splash yet.

Rustic open cavas - just meant I like the rustic look, just looking for ideas!

You seem set on a dark backslash, so here's an idea of what it can look like with a slate looking backsplash tiles.

    With warm white walls.

Are you thinking white walls, or what wall colors will be used throughout the home? Now that you have a counter and door selected you could think about the wall paint. if you are struggling with the backsplash decision you can wait on that until you've got the rest installed and can look at samples in the space.

Thanks, not sure yet about the walls, the molding including windows in my whole house is an oak. Would love to change it but it would just be to much. Now the kitchen is a bright yellow, would have changed it but we knew we were going to redo the kitchen. Living room is an olive green (may change) rest of house basic neutrals.

I agree the backsplash can wait. I am going to get some samples. Fortunately my husband dose tile work so we can take our time.

Thanks for the picture of the dark back splash. I wish I the samples now to compare light vs dark.

Your trim/casing etc has such a clean grain. Personally, I wouldn't do oak in your kitchen. Alder, Cherry or Maple will work better. If you like rustic, then consider knotty alder.

Here's a rustic alder kitchen I did several years ago.

That looks nice Kitchen Place! When I think rustic I don’t think quartz - the leathered black granite is definitely rustic. And its uniformity allows for a more textured/rustic backsplash if that’s where you see yourself. Just make sure you have good layered lighting with all the dark finishes.
