Exterior paint input/ideas please

Hi everyone, I am looking for some input for our very plain jane 1950s ranch home. I have attached the photo from Google maps, which is old, but gives the gist. Blah color, small, too high windows and hipped roof. We are going to be bumping out the front entry so the current front patio will now be enclosed and a new front porch will be added. I am just not sure what it should look like. We played with the idea of dark blue paint and keeping the white trim since the windows are still in great shape and we are not looking to replace them. Any ideas are welcome!!! Thank you all.

The white is very stark, so painting will be good. What you need is some landscaping. I'd put a pretty, flowering tree in the yard to be in between the windows. That will break up the space. It needs to be in the yard, not as a foundation planting.

How about a color found in the brick? I would keep the white trim like you say and definitely get some landscaping happening!

An actual updated picture would be better. Post one.

I wouldnt do any addition on that front. Paint the house, leave the brick inset for front door. Spend the bulk of your money on hiring a landscaper to draw out a design plan, and get plantings put in. You can add to it, if you dont want to spend all that money right now, once you get a plan. There isnt anything wrong with the look of your house, except that its too stark a color white, and you have nothing there for landscape interest. The house itself, is a nice looking house.

Russian Sage can get rangy looking. Mexican Sage would be a better choice.

Here is an actual paint color to consider. Weekend Getaway by Benamin Moore. They have nice colors.

You could paint the porch post and beam a rich wood tone brown. The shutters would be a match to the roof shingles.

    darker posts

darker shutters. The purple flowers are nice.

You can upload a photo of your house to paint companies online visualizers and "paint" it using their colors.

Here is Benjamin Moore Evening Dove, a shade lighter than their most popular Hale Navy. Great with brick.

It looks like the Southwest or SoCal. Palo Verde trees are very pretty and very hardy and have yellow flowers in Spring.

I'm not sure why you need an enclosed front porch. If remove the wall into the interior so it is part of the living space, it will add a little more square footage but the cost would be high. You would have a longer living room.

If you don't remove the wall and have a larger porch, it does not seem to add much to the house unless it's air conditioned so you can sit in there- but you would be cut off from everyone inside in a separate space. It doesn't look large enough for lounge chairs.

Mostly you would just pass through there. I think you need to determine how you would use the enclosed porch and why you need one, and do a cost/benefit analysis to make sure you get a good ROI.

Here’s my two cents: I like the white because whatever plants you eventually will pop against it and not blend in with the color of the house. It appears you live in a hot tropical area so I’d make use of hibiscus, bougainvillea, and mandilla so? I’d put a large rectangular trellis that’s a work of art between the windows. It doesn’t have to be on the wall, but in the flower bed. I’d grow something beautiful up it but not to the extent it covers the trellis. Some topiary plants would be beautiful too. If you wanted to add color I’d do that with trim or tile . Maybe incorporate some seating on your new entrance as well bringing out the colors of the plants or trim with cushions, pots, and pillows. It will be adorable.
