Quick Silver seems to have yielded to the pruners and is behaving quite nicely as an I suppose you could call it a grandiflora, because of its height and cluster blooming trait. This is the beginning of its second year of being pruned very low to the ground, about a foot high each spring pruning. There's a nice crop of buds now, on quite straight canes, due to open at month's end, I predict.

The next major step to take with Quick Silver is to prune much farther down the canes when dead heading time comes around, than pruning at the first nice five leaflet leaf. I suppose I will go down farther, dead heading at least half way down each bloomed out cane, in order to force the bush's new laterals that are made to come out from thicker, lower parts of the cane, so that they are husky and strong against the elements.

Will keep you posted on Quick Silver's progress.....so far, it's been very agreeable to changing from a climber to a grandiflora. I believe its inherent shorter climber trait coupled with its brittle, stiff canes can make this possible.
