Kitchen decor ideas

last modified: 24 days ago

How can I make this kitchen more welcoming without changing the light or table? I was thinking of adding the shelving near the door.

I don’t want to change the table, light or paint because I just finished an outside reno and don’t have the extra money. I just want to make the room look better and more complete then it is. I agree with the lighting and table change but it has to wait- just stuck on what to right now. Any thoughts?

I would get more unique, colorful art. And a new table with new chairs with some texture to them.

The muddy paint color on the wall doesn't do much for the room does it?

A round table in the corner would be better than an oval.

The light fixture casts strange shadows on the wall and the quality of light is terrible. I would change out the pendant fixture to something simple.

Cutting boards as decor abig no for me . If you do not want to change the obvious issues then add art that has some life to it and lower that chandeleir fo sure . IMO the table and color are not good in the space .We also need to see the whole kitchen

Added pics. i can‘t update the issues now after my outdoor reno. I would like some ideas on how I can make it look more complete without a new table/light because that has to wait.

I think it's already welcoming, and I don't think shelves will make it more so. However I would lower the light over the table if you can. Then try a colorful tablecloth to liven / warm up the space, since you want to keep the table. Also consider new chair cushions for some color. (Try a place like Home Goods for inexpensive cushions and tablecloths.)

I personally like art that tells a bit of a story, like something unique found with a loved one at an art fair, or favorite family / vacation pictures printed on large canvas. I wouldn't rush to find "art" at a place like a Home Goods or Hobby Lobby, or even a more expensive store, unless you find something you absolutely love that will make you smile whenever you see it.

change up your wall art…no shelves..too tight of a space, it will be bumped no doubt..I would change up your window shade to a lighter brighter woven shade or fabric roman shade…change the wall color..to a soft white….can your lighting be lowered? should only be 32” from top of table to bottom of light..best if hung with a chain link…

Get frosted bulbs for the chandelier, it will fix the shadows that are not warm and welcoming...too much like a spider web.

The art overwhelms the breakfast set. Herbal botanicals suggested are nice for a kitchen in art and tablecloth.

The oilcloth tablecloths are very tough and last a long time and wipe up is a breeze.

The cutting board shelves seem cluttered. Clear the countertops and use cutting boards, flower pots with succulents on the counters instead of the wall display.

Sorry the Walmart is not oilcloth.

Sage green cafe curtains would not block so much light. Like these but use a simple spring tension rod.

I think a lighter wall color would help the table fit in. If you know what's on the walls now have the mixer cut it 50%, or look at some light greens to reduce the beige aspect and bring in some color. If you do decide to get different art that may end up suggesting some wall color options.

good advice already - agree with a softer piece of art, texture always warms up a space - maybe a rattan basket for the centerpiece and/or more colorful seat cushions

I like the mellow colors of your kitchen. Add:

    - Rug under the table to help define the space better.

    - In expensive chair cushions - stripes, including a bit of black.

    - @Home Interiors With Ease has a nice layout with the grid of pics. Use black frames to pop on the wall, coordinate with seat cushions, ground the space. DIY the art if you don't have the $ - cut up wrapping paper, get post cards, use product labels.

    - Lower chandelier.

    - Declutter counters.

TY all! great ideas. i love the 6 photo collage. so it’s ok to leave the opposite wall blank then? just put the 6 where the 1 large painting is?

TY! I’m not a fan of green but I get your idea. i did try to make some changes. will look out for nice prints. i even found nice cushions.

I cook every day so the things I left out on the counter are items I use every day and to put them away all the time- jus just tto tatake them out again does mot make sense.

I suggest a colorful runner rug by the sink with solid seat cushions that coordinate that are not cream/tan/grey, a centerpiece for the table with color, and wall art with more color.

Yes the set of six wall art and nothing on the other wall….I am not a fan of runners on tables unless you are setting the table to entertain…and would not add cushions…add much larger center of table decor…and whatever vase or pottery could be a color from the set of 6 wall art…

It might be possible to deconstruct the light removing the cube frame and adding a drum shade.

What are your fav accent colors? what colors are in adjoining rooms?

I would start with a colorful rug under the table with a coordinating runner by the sink.

The adjoin rooms are a LR and DR. All

open with foyer and hall. All same color scheme/wall color, etc

I'd add a tablecloth with copper/brown undertones to help tone down the white. I'd also treat the table as if it was a round table (I know it isn't) and space the chairs out

On a minimal budget I would start with:

    - nothing added to the back wall;

    - if not replacing the chandelier (although nice it's a bit small) I would lower it to 36 inches above the table surface, it's presently much too high;

    - replace the art on the wall with something that's brighter

    - replace you chair pads with something brighter that has colour.

    - a silver tray on the table (coordinates with your pendant) with fresh flowers and small decor
