It meets code. The vanity is 37 inches in an 8.5x 6 bathroom. You need to calm down. Not looking for a bizarre overreaction like yours. Some of the people in these discussions need to chill a bit. Others are really wonderful and super helpful. Have a great day.

You have 34" for toilet space between vanity and the wall? in the 8.5 x 6 bath? Hang it on the wall.

A recessed one on the wall and done

Will suggest you dispense with the toilet paper and buy a bidet wand that can be attached to the existing toilet plumbing.

Measurements are key. We have 13” between vanity side and toilet and a simple c- arm( or whatever it’s called) holder installed on vanity fits fine. The tub/ shower is on other side, so not enough wall there. I don’t like free- standing if at all possible because it’s one more thing to move & clean around, though I understand there would be places where only that would work. Also, I wanted to have room for a small trash can by toilet , and that fits between toilet and tub. I don’t have the skills to do the recessed thing, but that sounds like a potential option. I think those are more of a pain to change the paper.

It’s not helpful for people to make negative comments on a finished space especially when the poster isn’t asking for that feedback. I would recess a black one on the same side as the shelf and Jan you should stop being so mean

You have a statement with the black shelf unit, I wouldn't take away from it with another dot on the wall. OR add another Black hanging wall unit and include the basket from the back of the toilet and tissue box so it looks intentional.

The space may look cramped,but only by sitting on the toilet and reaching out with arms will you get any idea of ergonomic viability.
In my long narrow bathroom the paper holders (u shaped chrome that lies flat against the wall)are situated directly across from toilet front. I have two,one fastened below the other.Super easy to put fresh roll,have to put the hanging sheet toward the wall to deter cat depredation.So glad to avoid cutting into the wall for a recessed holder.
Do spend some time on web looking up ideas for placing tp...eye opener and even amusement for sure! but I forgo hanging wire from the ceiling.If plumbing upgrade $$$ is feasible,the butt wash device is refreshingly hygienic but it is always handy to have tp on hand.

I would do a recessed holder as close to the shelf unit as you can get (but not black). It looks like it would be a bit of a twist and turn to get TP from a holder on the vanity.

On the wall for sure. Those freestanding one always tip and are irritating. Even if you went with a bidet, you'd need to wipe off the water somehow.

I like Jan's black recessed toilet paper holder, but I would prefer to put a regular toilet paper holder on the vanity.

My space is 32 inches for the toilet (not what I would plan), and the center of my toilet paper holder is 14 inches from the back wall and 26 inches off the floor. The cabinet is 9 1/2 from the toilet bowl.

Kristin, if it’s any help, we have a guest bath with exactly 35” for the toilet between cabinets and wall. Our toilet paper holder (not recessed) is on the wall and works just fine. The center of the holder is 21 1/2” from the back wall and 31 1/2” from the floor. The edge of the toilet seat is only 8” from the wall. If you can do recessed at this point, great. Otherwise, it will be fine.

Definitely not gonna do recessed, I'm thinking it's fine on the wall. My powder bath has waaay less space and the toilet paper holder is 6 inches away from toilet. Never received any complaints and the toilet paper holder police have never showed up about any code violations.

Never had toilet paper holder police visit but I do have tight security at my place just in case. :)

I wish I had a picture. #1DD had a similar issue. At a second hand store we found a pencil thin stand alone holder similar to the one pictured above but half the size. It's never tipped, never been in the way. I have the larger version in my renovated bath and tipped???? Never, but it's only been 10 or so years.

Seems to me that you sit on the bowl and figure out the spot that is easiest to access. No TP police, do what feels comfortable to you.

Nice bathroom! I love that you have a visible space for spare rolls. Nice for when someone runs low and can locate the spares.

I would mount on the vanity because I think placement on the wall, close to the shelves is going to look awkward. Plus, you don't have to look at the tp.

Team wall. I dislike anything like toilet paper or towel rack on a nice vanity. Try hanging it on the wall.
