Look like garlic

Possibly wild onion?

They are bulbs, not seeds. If they are some kind of Allium (onion family) they will smell like it. A geographical location would help as would an idea of whether these were found in a former vegetable patch, a flower bed, a lawn or on wild land.

I have a bulb with grass-like leaves and lovely white star flowers. It's in my lawn, but mostly gets mowed. You could plant it in a pot and see what happens. The bulb I have is fairly weedy and survives being mowed, so you could have been mowing enough you never saw a flower.

Grape hyacinths also look the same, but they are probably one of the wild onions.

Sigrid's bulb sounds like Ornithogalum umbelatum, Star of Bethlehem. Neither it nor Grape Hyacinths would smell of onions so I would suggest the OP crushes a bulb and sniffs. That would eliminated non Alliums.

There is a bunch of things that can make little bulbs like that. If you smash one open and it smells like onion/garlic, then it more likely is a allium of some type. If it smells of something else or mostly nothing.. then it is something else. It looks like it has roots, but dry top instead of green- so it might be an early spring bloomer that has already died back or a late one that hasn't sent up green yet.
