Pool Equipment Shed

last month

Appreciate any suggestions for colors to paint or any other way to spruce up this shed which hides our pool equipment. It is large by necessity to allow for access and work on the equipment but we are trying to find ways to downplay the look of this huge box in our yard. Thank you.

    Beautiful pool!

Can anything overhang into the fenced in equipment area or does the airspace need to be clear due to a pool heater, etc.?

Which side of the fence opens to access the equipment or shutoff switch?

Can plants be placed between the fence and pool coping or will that interfere with the equipment area’s gate opening or the steps/walkway between the house/pool/equipment? If no issue, consider grasses tall enough to screen the equipmeny fencing. You may need to dehead the grasses when seeds form so it doesn't seed itself into your lawn or cause pool debris.

For the frnce itself, if it is cedar consider just letting it weather to a silvery gray. Painting it any color even green just calls more attention to it.

The pool equipment is unfortunately in a prominent spot next to the pool. Have you considered moving the pool equipment farther away to a less obtrusive spot? It will also lessen the equipment noise while by/in the pool or house. If feasible, it‘s not cheap but could be a better long-term solution.

My pool equipment is about ~35’ away from the pool end for these reasons. The pool contractor originally proposed placing it right next to the pool since it was easier (and cheaper as the longer distance required trenching).

Plant some type of vine around it, but you will need to trim it once in a while to keep it from growing over the enclosure.

Too bad they didn't move the enclosure another 20 ft away from the pool. Our pool equipment is around the side of the house, so not visible from inside or anywhere near the pool or backyard.

Thank you very much for the suggestions. The access gate is opposite the pool so we can plant tall grasses or shrubs with shallow roots to conceal the shed from the front. It is cedar.

Unfortunately, our pool contractor poured the concrete pad for the equipment and installed it without consulting with us (we were working when it was done). We are now regretting not pushing back on this pool equipment placement - we have an area about 20 feet away near the back patio that we do not use- where it could have been easily concealed.

I don’t know if this would even work practically for your family. But I think it could be cute/ cool to build it into some sort of treehouse or clubhouse, using that as the “foundation”

Benjamin Moore Black Forest Green (HC-187) and landscaping by shed. I would add a gravel pathway to the shed off of the steps and pool concrete (with stepping stones). Add some potted plants. make it feel deliberate vs trying to hide it. It is front and center so I would play it up. Add some hooks on shed wall to hang towels and maybe add a teak storage bench for seating. You could even add a growing wall on shed. I think you can make it look subtle vs prominent.

Consider several tall planters with decorative plants in it. Several like these in front.

Perhaps you can paint the fence green too. (like the grass).
