Gas Range 4k or under

last month

Hi, after purchasing our home two years ago we're remodeling our kitchen! Super excited, as I cook ALL the time! We're purchasing a new gas range, and our budget is only 4k. We currently have a tiny Magic Chef convection wall oven, so anything is a huge step up, to be honest. But I'm trying to get something that will not only look great, but will work well for awhile - and should any problems arise, the company will have my back. We're thinking about a Thor or KitchenAid. I'd love a BlueStar, but they seem to be slightly out of our budget. The 4k is everything - tax, delivery, etc - out the door. Thanks in advance!

gas ranges are getting a new substitute...induction. You are best to show the plan. is the wall oven being removed ? With gas in particular you want venting to the exterior so what is the position for range AND hood in the scheme of things ?? 4k is probably doable for a mid grade gas range with under cab hood w money to vent to exterior probably. I'd go to a good scratch and dent or independent retailer near home that has open box deals. [gas burner technicals are not highly complex] ....A full remodel / not just appliance choice gets useful feedback here . Appliance site on Houzz for the limited question.

Does 4K cover the 36" wide ventilation system needed for a 30" range? Plus the required Make Up Air? If so, that 30" pro style range isn't going to happen at that budget. Double it to start. And if you are talking about something like a 48"? You need 15-20K to make that happen, because you likely will need a gas line upgrade, AND a huge 54" ventilation and MUA system done.

Your best buy for a value consumer level range is a GE. Either the Profile, or a step below it. It will still need the 36" hood, but depending on what you cook, you may get by with a 400 CFM one that doesn't need MUA. If you cook more challenig things containing spices and high heat, you will need the more CFM that requires MUA.

Thor ranges are made by Hyxxion Metal Works along with those sold under the the NXR and Kucht brands. For more than decade here, the standard advice about these brands has been to consider the limited support network for those brands --- consider them only if you are comfortable DIYing repairs and sourcing generic replacement parts. Maybe you've already done a search for past threads on these brands? If not, a search on those brands will turn up a number of long running threads about them over the years. (Disclosure: I've had an NXR range since 2012.)

It is a good question about whether your $4k budget for the stove includes a range hood/vent or if you are budgeting separately for one. Do you maybe already have that figured or maybe are planning on an over-the-range microwave (OTR) for the venting?

Besides budgeting for a hood, you also may may need to budget for make-up air (MUA). Maybe you've already looked at this? If not, be aware that building codes in many jurisdictions now require MUA for any kitchen with hoods rated for over 400 cfm. (Basically, that's going to be most hoods you'd consider for a Thor and for the Kitchenaid models with more burner power.) Also note that the general recommendation here is for a hood wider than your stove (i.e., 36" wide hood for 30" wide range/cooktop.) The extra width helps greatly with capturing rising"effluent plumes" to limit the build up of aerosolized grease on your kitchen cabinets.

It's not a wall oven, and the hood budget is separate. My husband renovated our cabin, and he's doing the renovations on our kitchen as well. I'm sure he knows the answers to your questions; it's all jibberish to me, lol. I have a few vents picked out, here's one example. This has the Zline E690 stainless steel vent unit with LED lighting. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1025244215/antique-barnwood-vent-hood?ls=r&ref=hp_rv-8&frs=1&content_source=5ccbb7609f3ab44f95d3665fe68d7cfdc6bb322e%253A1025244215&logging_key=5ccbb7609f3ab44f95d3665fe68d7cfdc6bb322e%3A1025244215
