Rose ID help please

Does anyone have any idea what rose this might be? A friend saw it at a rose show in the "unidentified" category. Strong fragrance. The person who brought it in could not remember what it was. Any help is appreciated! Google image search keeps telling us it's a peony

My friend asked if it was Jacques Cartier and was adamantly told it wasn't that rose

I had a notion that I had a rose in my garden that had something of the "shaggy" look of your mystery rose, but it took me a while to track it down. It's not your rose, but 'Gil Blas' has plenty of character. Now that I've tracked it down and eliminated it as a possibility, I'm more baffled--and covetous--than ever. What an intriguing rose.

Gorgeous rose; might it be a Damask of some kind? The jagged leaf dentation reminds me of 'Ville de Bruxelles'. You didn't get a picture of buds, did you? Agree it's not 'Chloris'.

I don't think it is Ville either. I'll look for a photo.

Ville and smaller friends. Yours looks a bit fluffier around the edges.

Looking and re-looking at your photos, I'm thinking that your rose is unusual in style: that combination of "shagginess"--or fluffiness--and the button eye. I've grown dozens of once-flowering old roses, and can't recall any whose flowers were formed like that. If anyone has, I'd love it if they reported in.

The color and the button eye reminds me of Sidonie. But I don’t grow Sidonie in my garden, so I couldn’t tell you if there’s any resemblance beyond that.

I've never seen that configuration of petals on the inside of the bloom like that on my Sidonie, but I am not very good at rose ID. Frankly it doesn't look like any rose I've seen! Intriguing and beautiful.

Thank you both! I don't think it's Sidonie, she has very defined quartered petals (pic of mine below)
