Neither of those samples do anything for the overall design of the space. Totally wrong colors, at least in the photos.

I agree, I'd go with something a little deeper in color. Maybe a tribal, rather than the check.

This is an Oushak design, but made in India, so it's less expensive. If you were buying for an investment piece, I'd spring for the genuine Turkish Oushak.

These are all great options, thank you! The underlying issue is that my wife wants it custom cut so that it jobs around the fireplace hearth and a built in book shelf.

We can't see that situation from the photos you have posted. Hard to justify the expense IMO. Additionally, I don't know that I'd place a material susceptible to fire and water near a hearth.

Here is a photo of the entire room (the chairs are getting replaced with larger/comfier leather chairs in a similar color. We are in new england and my wife likes that look of the carpet getting cut so it goes around the hearth. its also sort of needed bc there is a desk to the left of the fireplace that needs carpet coverage for the chair

the darker version will look great. Go with your gut, you chose the pattern for a reason.

I would also look at other 100% wool rugs with a bit more design and color….

The carpet will be custom cut with a 3inch reveal of hardwood.

I'm not a designer or an expert non-professional person on this forum - however, only having a 3" reveal of the hardwood floor seems odd to me. My understanding is that it should be at least 8" - and that many professionals recommend a 12"-24" reveal of hardwood next to the walls. A 3" reveal will make it feel like wall to wall carpeting instead of a nice area rug.

Hands down the dark rug to ground your furniture and new wall color.

I completely understand wanting the look of the rug cut to the space with a small wood reveal. I concur with @dani_m08 that 3" is just too small. You should experiment by moving your current rug into the corner of the room and then pulling it out 3" from both walls, then try 8", then try 12". Take pictures of each, get a feel for it.

You would want the wood reveal in front of the stone hearth too. I fear that the look she has in mind is better achieved with a hearth that has much more depth. I don't think the scale is going to make sense doing that in here. Does she have any photos where this was done successfully on a scale similar to your hearth? At a minimum, she should get craft paper, cut out, and tape down the look she imagines around the fireplace and live with it for a week to see if it is doing what she wants it to.
