First Flowers Open for Friday and Saturday

I've had a few more first flowers open on the daylilies I brought and planted last fall.

Yoga Man had its ffo on Friday. The color is not nearly as pretty here as it was in Nashville. The petal color is much darker, and the eye is not as blue. This photo is from my Iphone.

Sensational Heart, a Salter evergreen, is doing really well here. While most of my daylilies will have very short scapes this year, Sensational Heart has one scape taller than its registration of 32 inches, two scapes at 30 inches, and three scapes at about 27 inches. There were three blooms on the ffo this morning. I photographed two, but the one on the tall scape was on the other side of clump. As you can see, this wasn't a perfect opening. This pic was taken with my Nikon, and I'm using a program called Photo Pad to crop and resize.

Browns Ferry Debutante had two nice blooms today. Veining was more prominent than I've seen in the past. I took this photo with my Nikon.

I also had an ffo on an older red seedling, Red Edition X The Ultimate Sacrifice. The bloom was huge but quite splotchy, so I decided not to post the picture. I don't recall it ever being splotchy like this in Nashville. Maybe it's because of yesterday's rain.

These plants appear to have multiplied well in a short period of time unless you had nice divisions to bring. They look healthy in their new home! the color on Sensational Heart looks sensational. I like Browns Ferry Debutante (it’s pink, you know!!) Nice to see more of your blooms in their new home.

They looks off to a nice start. Of course me and red, I like Sensational Heart. Most likely some of the plants while darker will be prettier than in Nashville.

Mantis - I do have Sensational Heart planted in a protected place next to the south side of the house where it stands a better chance of flourishing.

Kay - I'm sure you're right. Some will be prettier in color with the cooler temps, and some will verge on ugly. I'll just have to get used to different looks.

Kate - Yoga Man actually lost one of its three fans over the winter. But then the two remaining fans split so I have four fans of it now. The plant next to it with all the fans is Bubblegum Queen. That clump had five fans when I planted it, and now it has eight. I have two other clumps of it, and they both showed increases too. I brought multiple fans on most of my seedlings and the registered evergreens. The closer I got to the actual move, the fewer fans I was digging - two or three fans per plant.

Thanks Sherry! So far the evergreens are doing better than I expected. But we did have snow cover last winter, so that probably helped.

Nice group. Nice to see how the change in your location is for your daylilies that you brought with you from TN. The red really stands out.

I do think we have a harder time in KY and upper TN with evergreens living, due to snow cover in other places. Of course, it depends on the evergreen too. Some of the hardiest in my garden are evergreen. So surprising that some of yours have multiplied already

Nancy - Yes, I didn't expect much of anything to multiply. It seems to be semi-evergreens that have multiplied the most. Most of the evergreens did not multiply. I think Yoga Man may be the only evergreen that did.
