Need help with wall decor in bathroom.

I have a 32”x24” print of a french bathroom that is hung on the left side of the wall not in the center so when you walk in you see the entire print. If he centered it you would see only 1/2 of the print. o think it looks strange with nothing on the other side but i do not know what to put there.please help suggestions. The other photo with the wreath is on right side wall from the print.

Not a wreath for sure. IMO a different wall color would be agood start and what was the reason for thta over done waincoting in that space ? Is this just a PR or a full bath ? I would paint the walls the sky color form the print you have and then see if you need anything more

I usually advise Houzz posters that a powder room is the place to go wild with design. There is so much you can do in such a small space. The photo I'm posting is for inspiration.

Thank you Norwood Architects. I prefer a lighter, less busy room. it is actua a full bath though itbis a small one. can you suggest what i might do with the area on the right of the print ? I am posting another photo so you can see how much wall space is on the right side.

You do not need to do anything with the right side of that wall. Leave as is with the picture off center.

    Wrong color paint for room

Really? you couldn't select a more interesting subject matter for the artwork?

The wreath is too weak for everything going on with that wall.

We might suggest trying some wallpaper instead of the artwork and wreath. Below are two current powder room designs we have done for our clients. Please take a look at them for some ideas:

I looked at the wreath and the first thing that came to mind was "A crown for over the throne".

What do you think of having another similar picture over the throne? Saw this on wayfair

I find a lot of ideas on greatbigcanvas.com. These seem to complement the painting you have.

I like the colors and your art looks nice against it. What about something like this above the toilet. It will add some interest and somewhat minimize the blank wall space because there will be other things to look at. Nothing too busy, minimally decorated and definitely don't go too small.

maybe you could work your wreath into an arrangement somewhat like this:

Thank you for sending positive words and ideas. since i do have a lit if wainscoting in the small soace, do you think a shelf would be ok or too much

Love the comment about the wreath and throne! thank you Jennifer Hogan and Red Ryder for being thoughtful snd positive with your suggestions abd fir the photo ideas!! so very helpful! And from someone whi is not a desugner but trying to nake things look nice i sincerely appreciate your positive, helpful feedback with pictures!! To BeverlyFLADeziner I think your comments were rude and definitely not helpful - “DeZiner” really?

I love olychick's floating shelves. Might be a better balance to the art than a second piece of art.

Do you, Jennifer and Olychick think putting one or two shelves over the toilet would look ok with the wainscoting and if so, would you do the wall color, white or wood tone? Thank you both for your help!

How about a framed photo? I've done some really nice photos that were taken with iphones, blown up and framed, in bathrooms. the shelves are nice too, either open or closed.

I’m too OCD for shelves with stuff on them that can get dusty, BUT, I like how the natural wood shelves look.Over a toilet, it’s impractical for reaching for things. I would do more artwork and find a place for your bathroom “stuff” in another closet. Only hang the necessary towels on pretty towels bars. Everything AWAY and have as clean a counter as possible.
    But that’s just me.

Thank you Diana Bier and Red Ryder. I am kind of OCD as well and I like clean, clutter-free areas. I’m thinking that maybe a print of some sort over the toilet and leave the other wall with the print left where it is without adding anything more on that wall. If you have thoughts on what kind of print please let me know. I am so grateful for your help!

Selecting artwork is so personal. I love landscapes, seascapes, and still lifes in a realistic or impressionistic style. You may not. You may like abstracts, cows, or bunnies. Or maybe posters. It's really up to you. Peruse art.com or similar sites to see what appeals to you.

I think the shelves will be fine and will add some interest above the wainscoting for some balance. If you look at the minimal amount of "stuff" on some that I posted, it doesn't have to be too much.

I don't understand why the comments on wall color or the comment about the artwork. All she asked for was suggestions on placing art she already has and loves. Art should speak to the owner not someone who will never step foot in her bathroom. There are 2 people on here that can never say anything helpful. It's always about what THEY like. If you can't be helpful just don't comment....it's that simple.

Thank you Diana Bier and Red Ryder. I am kind of OCD as well and don’t like clutter thank you! Very well said.

To business_name_placeholder: Thank you for clearing that up for the couple of people who I think were rude. of

Leave the picture where it is now, but get a second coordinating picture and center it on the wall space to the right of the first picture. You need something different over the toilet, or maybe nothing at all in that narrow space.

Reasons why some people need to be rude. I think it comes down to the anonymity of the internet--people say things online that they probably wouldn't in person.

A lot of pros have a problem only seeing the issue that the OP is concerned with. They see the whole and want to deal with it. The problems are 1. that they could say it in a nicer way, and 2. they focus on what THEY like, not real design problems.

There's a difference between aesthetic choices, which are valid, and design rules of spacing, balance, scale and rhythm that should be followed to ensure a harmonious and safe home.

For example, whether or not you like separate toilet rooms is irrelevant, but if a homeowner wants one for whatever reason, then it being large enough and which way the door swings is relevant. If it's too small or the door swings in, that could be a safety problem.

Other non-pros are also rude--I think they want to sound superior and more knowledgeable than they are, just to make themselves look better, and the OP look naive at best and ignorant at worst.

For the record, I try to be helpful and positive in my responses, but I do not always succeed. No one is perfect, least of all me.

I would be looking for a pair of pictures for the wall you're asking about. For instance, I have a pair of peacocks on a similarly sized wall in my powder room. The picture you're showing could go over the toilet instead. It is hard to find art that is the right size, that you like, and works in a room. I just keep looking until I find the right thing. Sometimes it takes years. But I think it's better to wait than to spend money on something that isn't right. I would stay open to repainting the room as well. Maybe you'll find some art that inspires a different wall color. Don't let the wall color dictate the art. Paint is cheap, relatively speaking.

I was talking with a friend the other day and we were laughing about one of her classic comments to me.

At the time I was going through IVF, hormones raging, stressed, anxious, . . . I needed a release for all my pent up emotions. I said I just needed someone to do something wrong so I could explode. . . She looked at me, raised her hand up and said "It was my turn yesterday."

We laugh now, but I do wonder why anyone from that period of my life still talks to me. (7 cycles of IVF in 3 1/2 years.) I am thankful I have such tolerant friends.

Jennifer, Diana and Kandrewspa: Thank you all for your insight on possible reasons for rude comment’s. Some have mentioned wall color. Unfortunately the camera on my phone did not pick up the color very well. It is more on the light beige side. I do have a couple of options for a second similar print but my 23 year old grandson asked me if I would these two. What do you all think?

I love when homes are personalized and it looks like they would work well with your colors.

Think about the warmth that will come into your heart every time you walk into the room and see your grandson's photos of his beloved pet. Makes me smile and it isn't even my grandson!

I LOVE the photos of the pup on the beach!!! Either one would be a great choice, but I think the second shows more of the dog's personality because we see his/her face. And because it's your grandson's photo, that's icing on the cake!!

Jennifer and Diana. Thank you both for all your help! Who knew adding prints would be such a difficult and huge process!! My grandson is happy of course and he said he would have them made on canvas and frame them for me.
