Sherwin Williams Paint Colors

last month

I’m looking for paint suggestions for the kitchen/living room and office (which opens to the area via double glass doors) in a home we are purchasing. I attached some pictures. I am leaning towards kilim beige for kitchen/living room. What are colors could I use in the hallway and other bedrooms to coordinate?

I prefer warm neutrals and am not necessarily keeping the window treatments. Also, our couch is a brown

I am a big fan of white walls. Beige just seems to look dull in comparison. Just painted a whole interior with SW Cheviot and it looks fantastic.

I dont think kilm beige is much different than what you have. Its a bit lighter, but, it can have an orange look with the right light too. I would paint it a warm white. SW Alabaster would be better than kilm beige. For myself, I would pick a light actual color, but, it seems most want to be on trend now, and you may prefer the Alabaster. It looks like a nice house. Congratulations on your new home.

SW Panda White rather than SW Kilim Beige for a fresher look.

The current trend is white on white on white on white. . . I had all white walls, trim, ceilings, and light floors back in the early 80s and tired of it quickly. It was pretty, but I need more color and like having colored walls. It did not reflect my personality.

At the same time, Kilim beige is not one of my favorites. It is a bit dark and saturated for my taste, but you are the person who has to live in the house. It gained great popularity during the Tuscan trend and worked well with the richer, darker Tuscan designs.

I like a bit more neutral for my main, public space, neutral. I want the walls to be the backdrop for all my things and if it is too loud it takes away from my art and furnishing.

Samplize has a light beige bundle for $35.00 that has Kilim Beige, Accessible Beige, Natural Linen and BM Muslin in one bundle. I have had customers choose Accessible Beige, Natural Linen and BM Muslin in the past year when they wanted more beige, not gray wall colors. All three were really happy with the end result.

The others may be very pretty as well. I just have not known anyone who selected the other colors as their final color.

Test them all next to the flooring, cabinets, countertops - anything that must stay. Pick the one that speaks to you. Bring in sofa cushions, art - anything that will be part of the final color selection.

I personally love blues and greens with beige, but again, the colors have to blend with your belongings and your home. What color will your sofa be? What colors are prevalent in your art and decor?

I never start a project by selecting the paint colors first. They are selected LAST because there is no limit to them.

Start your project by selecting the rug for the space. Pull your upholstery colors from that selection. Then select paint colors.

Besides, Kilm Beige is referred to as an ORANGE PAINT COLOR. I don't think you want to reinforce the orange of your oak flooring.

You can 'paint' your walls on the SW website. Here is Kilim Beige

    Here is Alabaster

You should look for a color that coordinates with your countertop and fireplace surround. Kilim Beige might be a good option, and in real life will look a lot lighter and fresher than what you currently have. Here's an example of it in real life from Kylie M Interior.

Great suggestions! Thank you so much. Our sofa is brown. I haven’t picked a carpet, yet, but will start looking now. I also plan to purchase a couple of recliners. I love all shades of blue and have some art work with blue.

I have learned the hard way, to get the the shade lighter than my first choice.

Too much yellow/brown. I would go with warm off-white for entire space.

Warm off white for the entire space. If you intend to keep the kitchen as is, pay attention to your wall color in relationship to your cabinets, counters, and backsplash. Your artwork will pop nicely against white. The art, rug, and your belongings will then become the focus of attention instead of the walls. I think this is an asset given that you have soooo much wall space in this vast open home with high ceilings. A color other than white can really become too, too much in here.

Then go dramatic with your office. It is fine if they are connected to each other visually. Go moody.

Thank you for all of the insightful comments. I am ordering my paint samples today. I looked up some coordinating colors for Alabaster (if the sample looks good) for the office and found Meditative and Townhall Tan. I like shades of green, as well.

I like to check out the reviews by Kylie M to get a feel for what colors look like in real homes.

This is a photo from her website of a kitchen with dark cabinets similar to your cabinets.

This is her full review of Alabaster.

White is nice, if it is what you want, but it is not beige by any stretch of the imagination.

Only you know what personality you want your home to have.

White is light and bright and quite popular, but I like to remind people that color is still an option and can provide a more relaxed feeling to your home.

With white or a neutral wall color on walls of the main room in the home you can introduce color in the office, bedrooms, bathrooms . . .

This is the color palate that I helped my niece choose for her new home (including her daughters picks for their rooms.)

This is a picture of her last living room - kept the sofa and carpet.

You can see where the carpet includes the colors she is using in her downstairs.

Her last home neutral was BM Revere Pewter (Grayer and greener than Edgecomb Gray)

Just a note - don't pay too much attention to the names of the colors. Edgecomb Gray was named Baby Fawn. When gray became all the rage, but some people still loved beige, they renamed Baby Fawn Edgecomb Gray so people could pick a gray and have beige.

I also recommend looking at Miller Paint color tours to get ideas on how different colors look in real homes. They have some with white walls, but also quite a few with colors. They are all well coordinated spaces where all the rooms relate to one another, but aren't all painted white with a splash of color in the furnishings and art.

We painted our entire house in SW Neutral Ground (SW7568) and I love it! It is warm, not too white, nor yellow. Here is a great description of SW Neutral Ground: https://heatherednest.com/sherwin-williams-neutral-ground/

Beautiful suggestions! Thank you. Love the color choices in the home pictured and the above paint choice shown on my new home. This gives me a lot to think about :)
