I wish I could try hostas to eat. My two single precious plants struggle through the season in a constant onslaught of snails. They don't yield any scapes.

Yep. I have two stands of large leaf hostas on either side of my front steps. They are down to the nubs. Probably won't have any flowers on them this year.

In addition to deer food, they make excellent slug food, which is why I gave up on them in the garden.

I don't have deer problems because I have an electric fence system.

I don't have slug problems. I think because next to the hostas, I have my strawberry patch?

No scapes, no slugs, plenty of deer walking through. I have a few weeks before the flowers come and my 10% ammonia solution takes care of the slugs. Do you have other edible plants in your garden? I also have Ramps, the neighbors forage and eat them....

My ammonia drench takes care of the slugs too arcy……would never consider eating them as I have worked to hard and spent

I assume you mean wild foraged kind, not regular home grown ones. Yes, a ton of normal ones like ramps, violet, purslane, lamb's quarter, etc. etc.

I had no idea that hosta scapes are edible. Wow. The property that my coop building is on has hundreds of hosta.
