Design Dilemma Fireplaces Living Room

Help! any ideas for improving this dated rock wall fire place?

I'm looking for a solution to somehow make this rock wall fireplace look prettier. We are in a 1930s home with lovely high ceilings and hardwood floors, but this 1970s (?) fireplace situation really needs some TLC. I'm not one for too modern a look, I would like to complement the classic bones of the house.

Use a power chisel and remove the rock. It's not attractive. Look on YouTube to see how the rock comes down with the power chisel.

Sigrid, under the paint is dark brown 1970s looking faux rocks. We didn't like it :/

Don't try to cover it, just remove the rock. You will likely need to hire a pro to repair the drywall behind it.

If it's an addition to your home and not original to it I would recommend removing it.
