How interesting that Ruby Sky isn't listed on HMF. I clicked on your link, and it didn't have any more info, other than some great looking pictures!

For $14.97, gallon size on Wal-Mart's web site, and reading the badly written, contradictory description, my guess is that at the price and butchered sales pitch, it could be Chinese grown and promoted through Wal-Mart. Still, it could be a great rose if it is black spot resistant like a Knock Out.

Is there a tag on the rose? If so, look for the legal registration name. It may be a nonsense sting of syllables. If there is one listed, it may be a re-named variety that IS listed on HMF. I highly suspect this is the case, and that 'Ruby Sky' is just "a rose by any other name". Just plug the registration name into HMF search.

I’m glad you brought this up - I wanted to several weeks ago but was too busy. Ruby Sky is possibly rebadged True Endearment. I passed on the chance to buy it and now regret it. You’ll have to post pictures and let us know what you think of it.

@Dave5bWY I think you nailed it. Those photos are of THE SAME PLANT, not just the same rose. The *pot* has been photo-shopped to change it from True Bloom to a Better Homes pot, but it is indeed the same photograph with two different names and brands.

True Endearment is a US patented rose (2023), so shouldn't Mr. Lim be suing either BHG or Walmart for patent infringement? Not worth it?

@susan9santabarbara It's entirely possible that Better Homes is paying royalties. We just don't know. But BH&G is a reputable company. My first thought would be that there's a legitimate business deal, which is probably lucrative for Ping Lim. Trademark names (Ruby Sky) really have nothing to do with registration names or royalties, but if the legal registration name (ALTsantared) is on the tag (which we still don't know) they ARE paying royalties.

Thanks Fig, that makes total sense that a well-known company like BH&G wouldn't outright steal a patented rose by a well-known breeder. Makes me feel a lot better that Mr. Lim is probably receiving royalties. @Rosylady (PNW zone 8), did you keep the tags on your roses, and did they have the registration code name? Just curious.

Mine has 3 buds and am super excited to see the blooms. I'll try to post a pic.

I actually just picked up True Endearment from Walmart yesterday! It was marketed as such with the True Bloom branding. Fingers crossed it's actually what I get because this is a stunning rose.

Susan...yes, the tags are still on the roses. When I get home from my trip I will look at them and report back.
