few yrs back I did a project and pulled in paint swatch samples for some accent paint I needed in black. I noted many undertones in the various blacks. In your case....is this ebonized or espresso stain on wood? .. black paint ? what is the sheen? .hand rubbed matte furniture finish ? RE the shaker style ...standard or thin for a modern effect ?? ...does the space have the lighting configured.....what is it? do you have any glass doors/ windows w UV?? You havent mentioned floor? does it contrast? have grain? any island ? peninsula?? To summ up..show a picture and provide details if you want help w choosing elements.....

Well the kitchen is already demolished but have attached photos for lighting etc. But to answer your questions: ebony color, slight sheen on cabinets, standard shaker. Floor in kitchen is a greige cement look, floor in breakfast nook area and rest of family room is Brazilian cherry wood. The kitchen, breakfast nook and family room is one big great room w/fireplace up to ceiling. Fireplace we are using a natural silver travertine stacked stone (open to suggestions here too). looks like poeple walk around the curved area and enter the kitchen at one point only....that means the kitchen is along the wall contiguous w the curved corner and the wall opposite....this is rather small. if its black cabinetry I'd take the cabinets to the ceiling..stack them at the top and light up glass fronts for the top cabinets in at least a few... Are you still working on layout anyway? where does the door on the kitchen far wall lead? you potentially have a traffic problem thru the middle of kitchen but more info will clear up questions about layout etc. Not sure where you are in planning stages. just commenting on the fact of black in the small corner kitchen w a closed up feel to a degree.

Are you getting new furniture for your family room? The lines of your current furniture are very traditional while your space reads more contemporary-ish. Your kitchen colors make me think you want something slightly contemporary, though I am thrown by the shaker doors.

Stacked stone seems like a decade old trend. I was never fond of it and am glad to see it go, but if you love it, that is a different story. I'd love to see a more modern concrete take on the fireplace.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m going to answer both comments here. Definitely having cabinetry go up to the ceiling be stacked with the top all glass w/lughts. Door to in the kitchen goes to an open dining and living room/circular stairclase area. Using edge comb grey on walls throughout the house. Yes getting all new furniture with more clean lines vs traditional. I liked the cement look for the fireplace however decided on light stack stone to provide a bit more warmth. Plus we have a fireplace in the living room where we have a beige stacked stone to the ceiling as well so thought to keep it consistent. Could this be too much stacked stone? I’ll post some inspiration photos that I’ve been going off of. My I’ve go pretty much all picked out. Looking at vacasa white aurora or cambria everleigh for counters (leaning toward the former for a more subdued/clean look. Just stuck on what backsplash to use. Posting a ohoto of the stacked stone I’d like to use on the fireplace and then some inspiration photos for the kitchen
