shutter and front door color refresh

hello! my daughter bought this house and asked me to post on here for suggestions on shutter and front door color. Possibly the garage door as well. The shrub to the left of the house will either be removed or cut way back and a window box will be installed. The other landscaping will also be cut way back or updated. Any suggestions and photo shop ideas greatly appreciated!

I would not replace the shrubs with a window box. Window boxes take constant work. They look great in photoshops, but less so in real life after a few years or by the end of the summer. Daughter would be better off replacing the shrubs with flowering shrubs and perennials than removing them and putting in window boxes.

The shrubs are overtrimmed and uninspired, but I wouldn't remove them until you have a landscaping plan.

they all compliment the Taupe color trim you allready have.

Those aren’t shutters. They look like bandaids.

The triple window set should not have shutters at all, but the single window should. As long as they’re both half as wide as the window itself.

A darker shade of the garage door would be good for the new shutters.

@littlebug Zone 5 Missouri I agree! I have not seen the house in person. I am hoping that if they would be removed the siding color is the same under, and not darker due to being covered Any suggestions on colors?

Since the garage door is prominent, paint it the same color as the siding. That would make it less of a focal point. If in the budget, a garage door with windows across the top would be nice to help break up the ”wall” a bit.

I suspect the trim and the garage door was once a deeper tone, but those brown paints very often fade to these nothing mauve colors.

I would deepen the trim and the door if the siding color stays and eliminate any blue on this house. It's too much of a Pink/Blue color scheme.

Trim all the bushes into better shapes.

IMO all those fedges need to go and no shutters on those windows and window boxes are a PITA to keep looking good all the time . Some nice english garden type landscpaing will do wonders too IMO the garge is too big so I would do that door with some windows in it would be my choice and the same color as the house siding.

I agree the garage door should be the color of the siding so it “disappears” a bit. The roof needs to be power washed so you can see the actual color.

Remove one shutter and see if the siding leaves a shadow. If not, they can be removed completely. The front door can be any color you love, but I would go for something striking (like the suggestion from Lyn) so people know where your door is. Deep red, navy blue or any green can work with this house.

Go to a garden center that offers landscape design if you buy from them. Azaleas and rhododendrons can be colorful and stunning. No window box! Sigrid is absolutely correct about all the negatives.
