thanks! I actually bought two hostas that were labeled blue angel this year and they look greener and pointier than what i posted. must be some genetic variability in what is offered on the market.

You are welcome! Perhaps post the 2 that were labeled as BA. It is likely they were mislabeled. Be sure to show all the leaves and the flowers if they are showing.

Here is what I bought and planted this year that was sold as Blue Angel. Excuse its poor appearance, got hit with a bad hail. I promise it’s getting enough water. All my perennials look like garbage in their first year

L Clark, my Blue Angel always looks more green than blue. Your new leaf has the correct shape and tip. First year plants can struggle as they adjust to your conditions. Like with perennials, first year sleep, second year creep, third year leap.

The more sun it gets, the greener it gets. If I understand correctly, blue hosta have a wax on the leaves that gives them a blue hue. Growing in the sun melts the wax.

Bkay is correct, it there are exceptions. My Blue Angel is in pretty heavy shade and still looks more green than blue.

L Clark, this is always a nice challenge. The blues and blue greens can look so very similar.

While I see that some have speculated 'Blue Angel', I would lean toward H. sieboldiana 'Elegans'.

The first clue that stands out to me is the level of corrugation that is already appearing in this somewhat immature plant.

My 'Blue Angel' has a near smooth leaf, and a little waviness at the edges.

The flowers on your specimen appear to match Mark Zilis' description, "near-white with a pale lavender mid-petal stripe" as in 'Elegans'.

As it matures, if the leaves show more pronounced cupping, it could also be 'Tokudama' though that plant would typically not be in the inventory of larger retailers.

Here's a picture of a leaf of my 'Blue Angel'. It's smooth, no hint of corrugation.

This is the entire plant.. Again, smooth leaves....

Unfortunately I do not have 'Elegans' for a comparison but if you check the pictures on the HL you'll see the corrugation...

Just for fun, use the comparison routine to put them side-by-side...

I don’t think so. AM is decidedly more yellow. Here’s mine today: and Elegans Blue Angel.

To me the flower looks like BA.

Definitely look at the pics in the HL of BA and Elegans. I think BA has more prolific flowering than Elegans and the Elegans flower appears more white even though it has faint stripes. Elegans is definitely more rugose though BA will show some puckering with age in spots.

For me, Blue Angel's little pointy tip is what distinguishes Blue Angel from other blue hosta.
