Hello, I would like some ideas on how to add a second rail to my existing stairs between first and second floor. The height is only about 30" and I am worried someone will fall over and it is quite a long fall to the first foor due to extra wide and open ceilings.

the stairs are iron rods with wood on top. I know I can extend the rods but that would be rather costly. I've read online that some people put up a metal rail on top of a wood rail but I have not seen anyone actually complete a project like this.
