I need to see the whole room but when you opted out did you not have aplan . I think a nice tall storage unit to match what you have for cabinets would be my choice , never enough storage

I’m not being snarky but you know you have too much room /storage if you don’t naturally know what to do with it. Function first…what are you lacking in function? Nothing? Then just make it a closet. I see an ironing board tucked next to the washer and dryer - if you had planned an outlet on that niche wall you could have made that an ironing station.

The only option was a dogwashing station or nothing and the house was already framed and plumbing was finished so that was what we had I wasnt sure if we should do built ins (cant find the cabinet co) or a free standing curio or just have built in shelving made thank you all for your help!

Think about what might be most useful and convenient for you and your family. Is it used as a mud room as well?

Although the washer/dryer is far away, drying racks would be my choice as there are so many items not recommended for the dryer There are all kinds of options to suit different needs.

Adding louver doors would be a good idea to hide when not in use. Could add a matching door where ironing board is stored.

A coat closet, a tall cabinet, a sport equipment closet, open shelving with baskets for whatever.

Portable dog washing station since the sink is near by.

I like the wood drying racks that Maureen posted - the room could use a touch of wood and drying racks are perfect here. However, I’d still like to see that ironing board hidden….i don’t think open shelves make sense. So closet to store your vacuum and ironing board etc or drying racks would be my vote.

Do you have kids that play sports? That is a great spot for all their gear!

We have a similar space in our laundry room. We had an outlet put in and we put a second refrigerator there. It is very convenient since it is next to our kitchen.

I’d have drying racks, but I’d actually use them, so a dedicated out of the way space would be such a bonus for me. But if I didn’t use them, I’d put a big comfortable chair there, because I like having a place to sit down while I try to remember why I came into the room.

I would put in a white cabinet that fills the space and use it as a pantry.

The white would match the cubbies on the left.

I'd put a grandfather clock there as a reminder that time is limited to complete one's bucket list.

Toilet. Turn it on its side if it's not deep enough front-to-back. A bi-fold or pocket door to hide it. How nice it would be to have a toilet right there when you walk in. Alternatively, a small shower stall for when you come in all muddy or wet. I've been in mudroom where there's a shower stall -- how I wish I had that set-up for when I come in the house all muddy, wet, or otherwise a grungy mess!

I'd hang a sign, "This Space for Rent" with some Post-It notes, a pencil, and small box labeled "Bids" nearby.

You could use it for a closet - OR:

Divide the area between closed space and pull out drying racks as shown by the window of the below laundry room (the homeowner must have air dried a lot of items!)

Put a box of cat litter there and a curtain around it for privacy for the cats and to keep dust from the room. Adopt at least two cats and use "Worlds Best Cat Litter" brand cat litter, and high quality canned cat food like Wellness brand. So nice to have a large room like that - many of us do not have that nice of space. Keep the house fragrance free - DO NOT use laundry products with fragrance - bad for the people and the cats. NO to downy, bounce, snuggle, febreeze and other toxins like that - all should be illegal to sell - maybe someday that will happen. . . Eco's or Seventh Generation are two of the best laundry detergents, and use vinegar in the first rinse for softener. Borax is good too to add to the wash.

As the space is not very deep you might add an outlet and a bifold door, much less expensive than a wall & door or building a cabinet. Add shelves to one side if you need more storage space for things like paper goods or shoes.. Leave the other side with one shelf, (for hats, a basket, etc.), with a hanging rod under it. Use it to hang long coats or store brooms, a stick vac or regular vac, your iron & ironing board. Simple sometimes functions well. Take advantage of the space for storage. If you cannot find the same cabinetry, then find a similar style and paint them the wall color so it blends in, the slight cabinet difference unnoticeable.

A 27" depth is too deep for shelving, so opt for drawers, at least for some of the space. The drawer side might cap at say a 48" height and above that...?...a hanging rod, artificial flower arrangement?

It looks like the space would accommodate a 'barn door' closure. Even if you can't decide (now) how to use the space, you could install a barn door and close if from view. For this, you'd have to build the opening (as other doors) by lowering the overhead height, but it's not that big of a deal, any basic carpenter can do.

add an outlet and use it for an upright freezer if one would fit in there. Otherwise it's a great space to store an artificial Christmas tree, fully decorated, on a wheeled stand. hidden by a pretty curtain (or door). Wheel it out and put in the living room for Christmas then hide it again till next year. My dream, lol, least favourite chore in December!
