I like blues, greens, light pink, some yellows, oranges and corals, and all shades of brown and tan. I don’t do prints as a rule, except stripes and plaids (including the currently popular gingham). I am not really a bold dresser, and when I think about it I am not really much of a fun one either 🤔

From what I've seen of your outfits, you seem to have a very classic style. Not bold, but that doesn't make it boring. Your LBD is really lovely and I am excited to hear how the satin outfit works.

Hope you don't mind, but shopping felt like a fun distraction, so here are a few ideas if you do decide to shop outside of your closet. Not sure if they're your style, but thought you'd look lovely in all of them. I love the style and color of the blue dress! The pink one is a great style but I don’t like the printed skirt, not a huge fan of prints but this one is so distinctive I think it would be hard to wear it more than once or twice. Since we live in such a small community there’s a lot of overlap socially 😎

The LBD looks great on you. Since the shape is more modern, how about using jewelry that is more contemporary and fun? Especially since it's only the rehearsal dinner.

That's nice that you will be part of the rehearsal dinner. Especially if you are travelling. I like the LBD, it is a classic for a reason. But I still prefer color for weddings.

Those sleeves are awfully cute, I have to admit! Kitchy I agree color is preferable for weddings and related festivities, but the wedding is in February and the dress code specifically mentions LBDs….. and don’t forget I have that black net over nude underlining dress with the crinoline that is just languishing and none of that branch of the fam has seen it.

That’s the one! It fits well and I can wear my l black kitten hee velvet pumps and black stockings since it will be cold-ish. Cool, at least.

The flutter sleeve Eliza J dress is navy if that makes any difference! Looks like a black version is available at Nordstrom Rack. Someone should definitely buy it. I love the flutter sleeves too. Unfortunately I don't seem to have many events in my life these days so I have to live vicariously through all of you.

Aww thanks! My main challenge is that I need a petite (usually 10P) esp if the dress has a defined waist. I do have this dress I could wear; just need to ask bride’s mom (my childhood BFF) if she cares whether people wear black dresses. I have a feeling she won’t care. She already said she expects a wide range of attire given the families involved.

If I do wear this dress, or whatever dress, then my next dilemma is shoes and stockings vs no stockings. The last winter wedding I attended, I ended up wearing black stockings and boots because the weather was terrible. And it was a fairly informal wedding.

I know I am boring, but I like this…comes in navy or black. Maybe too shapeless?

I like the lace sleeves on this new one.. I may get grief for this, but I feel that navy at weddings has been totally overdone by our demographic, myself included. So I vote black or a different dress.

Many lovely dresses here and I am completely on board with a formal GTG! Wouldn’t a restaurant be agog at a party of twenty or so ladies in gowns, cocktail attire and walk-through dresses! Mtn, I had the dress in a fuschia color, but never wore it and ended up giving it away. It was too long and obvs would be tricky to hem. I stumbled upon the black, in petite, on a great sale so I bought it even though I had nothing planned. I think it’s a fun dress.

It is hard to see in the second pic, but that dress is all lace. I might have to order it to try.

I guess I am older than most of y’all, I like my dresses to be at least mid calf, if not longer. They just look dresser to me. Above the knee looks like a sundress???

None of the dresses I am posting are above the knee on me. I am 5’2”. These models are at least 5’8”.

K, the room you’re thinking of is my primary! Yes, I have a pink n green thing going on. Though my room is more like a muted coral and mossy green. Annnd the den next door to it has a green sofa and a pink and green rug. Annnd my office/craft room is pink, black, and white. Annnd... well. You get it.

This thread has been thoroughly enjoyable - especially since it isn't me who is looking for a dress. If a formal or dressy event does appear on my horizon I'll be re-reading all of these posts for ideas.

DD and I do have fascinators that we wore years ago to a fancy luncheon at a British tea room. Sadly it closed during Covid.

I enjoy living vicariously through all of you, but this is bringing back some PTSD from my son's wedding. I sure hope to avoid that when the other one marries -- even if I have to bribe them to elope or do a barbeque.

Thanks Prickly! I am hoping to find something with longer sleeves because….February. I like the CK floral too, but my experience trying on fit and flare dresses with that scuba fabric is that they look terrible on me. I tried a couple when I was looking for my MOG dress.

It is really too early to be looking but with all the dress threads, of course I had to start!

I am serious, the next GTG should include a formal-as-you-like evening. If people don't have or want to wear formal, that'll be ok too, but we should do a dinner out in our finery!
