1st BH mystery block done!

last year

After completing part 8 of the November released Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt, I put the 1st block together. 69 pieces or 25 units per block(I think 🤪).
Only 25 blocks to go!
Donna, thank you for bringing up the Quiltville Mystery in your November discussion. I have found it to be really challenging and it definitely has pushed me out of my comfort zone. More blocks to come, lol!

Char, that's going to be a great quilt! I've done half a dozen or more BH free patterns, athough I've never done one of her mysteries. They are quite time-consuming, but I always love them when they're finished. And they use up a ton of scraps.

That's true! I don't think there is another in my future, though. I'm not the greatest piecer, but I think I did well enough on this one. Also, I'm not sure if I will use all 25 blocks in one quilt. I may do what Donna did and make 2 smaller ones.

It looks great. I know how frustrating blocks with a million pieces can be ... and swear to never do another ... but then I do!

So I decided on a 16 block & a 9 block with the BH mystery blocks. Here is the 16 block in rows with sashing(I do not have enough backing fabric to start quilt-as-you go yet).

I havn't even thought about putting together the border units yet 🙄. I think I will take a break from this for a little while, lol!

It has been challenging for me, but I am happy with results so far. I ordered enough fabric for the backing, but it's going to my sister's in Tampa area until I can retrieve it in October. I have several other projects in my brain to work on in the meantime.

Wow is right.!!

I kind of steer away from her mysteries because of the bazillion small pieces, good for stash reduction but might just put me in the home!

Theresa, I think after this endeavor, I will also avoid her mystery quilts in the future. Don't get me wrong, I am very happy I undertook one, but wrestling with the seam allowances alone is enough to put me in a home, lol! It surely challenged my piecing precision and patience and also taught me I CAN do tiny piecing successfully. I got out the starch spray to flatten those allowances down! It helped a great deal, but I anticipate quilting evenly over some of them will also be a challenge, for me anyway.
