I really love the openness that you currently have with the glass lantern. If you are looking to lighten things up with brass, I'd go for a brass lantern.

I like the lantern. I would choose a natural linen for the roman shades, seems like that would coordinate with your chair upholstery and rug.

I like the open-arm style of the brass shade. I am partial to leaving the bulbs bare, but using a frosted chandelier bulb on them.

Here are examples of with and without shades.

Shades soften the light, reduce glare, and force light down to the surface below reducing dispersal.

Depends what you're after....: ) in looks and function. Is the table 54 inch diameter? Use at least 30"/36 width for a light.

I would not worry about blocking views to plates.

I like DR fixtures that actually light the table not the ceiling but then I also do not think plates are the best art for that wall. and I would lose the rug. I would look for a simple drum shade with down lights for that space .

I’d be concerned about there not being enough light there at night…for mood lighting it’s probably fine - but do you ever do puzzles or need better lighting there?

Art would be very nice on the wall, and IF a rug, perhaps an 8 x 10. might fit? ( a round table doesn't dictate a round rug)

I prefer a chandelier that has some sort of shade to eliminate an glare issues. However, if you select a brass fixture with white shades it hardly makes a statement in your room. I don't see how it relates to any of the finishes currently in the room. You were better off with a bronze finish on your current fixture.

The fixture you selected is available with black shades and that helps a bit.

Or you can select a bronze fixture with white shades

I like the plates on your feature wall but IMO their scale is too small to compete with the other items selected for the room.

I can't tell if your plates are blue, but I don't see how blue fits in with your color scheme.

I would have consider black and white or sage and white and consider using platters on the wall to vary the shapes.

These dishes are usually what ever they are selling off at HomeGoods, TJ Maxx or Belks unless you are searching for valuable plates to add to the wall.

I like the idea of plates displayed on a plate rail close to ceiling, with art work below that expands the period of the plates. Your current light fixture looks like an entry light. An antique brass or bronze arm fixture with warm candle style lights would look nice.

Beverly, thats a great suggestion re the plates. i have blue and white and green in my family room and i was trying to being the blue over to the kitchen area but may i was trying to force it when i should b focusing on whats already there. You still have not posted any pics of the REST of your home. All we can go on, is the vignette of this breakfast area....and you're asking all the designers here, pro and gen pop, right?

IF you had an interior designer in your home, would he /she not see this living floor in its entirety?
