Full overlay cabinets are very nice.

I have painted inset shaker cabinets in my kitchen and full overlay (same finish and door style) in my laundry room. Lovely as they are, I would not splurge on inset cabinets in a future renovation if it would place a strain on my budget. I never walk into the laundry and think, “Oh, I wish these cabinet doors were inset.”

You can take full overlay cabinets and make them appear more like insert doors by adding a filler strip between each cabinet.
