Magnolia hit by car

last year
last modified: last year

So, back in the Winter, one of my Southern Magnolias was hit by a car, the tree prevented the car from advancing further and causing more damage, but removed a lot of lower bark (about 40% of circumference). The tree itself seems to have a secondary dominant trunk (may be the result of of snow damage early in its life), secondary trunk was not affected. Tree is about 2.5 stories in height. The tree grew and flowered this year, but do not see much if any callus formation made this year. How well do Magnolias recuperate from this kind of damage.? I planted a new one along the same line, in case there are issues down the road.
