We moved into a rambling old lodge-style fixer upper on 20 acres a couple years ago and are finally getting in sight of the kitchen renovation! It's currently 40+ year old oak cabinetry with the drawer bottoms failing, no windows just borrowed light on both ends, with a half bath in the corner which we're deleting in order to use that prime south facing wall for kitchen space. There is a basement under this portion of the house so moving plumbing etc is pretty simple. I've been tweaking our plan for a while, thought through our workflow, preferences, and limitations a lot, and am happy with where it stands - but also know the benefit of more eyes and experience weighing in. This is my husband's and my 4th renovation, I homeschool our 2 daughters ages 9 and 12, and we expect to be here for probably the next decade.

While we definitely aren't moving walls (except *possibly* recessing a full size fridge slightly into the garage wall but hubby says no promises) we ARE able to play with openings on just the south facing wall that leads to the backyard. I've proposed two windows flanking the range (currently there is one on that wall) and leaving the existing french doors as they are.

-We typically bring groceries in through the garage/laundry room entrance

-I cook dinner from scratch basically every day, kids and hubby handle their own breakfast and lunch. We school and work from home, so the kitchen is in use throughout the day.

-I hate to have people in my work triangle while cooking but have a daughter who loves to bake/cook, so a secondary prep area out of the main frenzy (me) is important

-I prep as you go aka chop and drop. Must have about 4 feet of counter directly next to range to spread out and work on dinner. I like wide aisles and few cabinets at face level.

-Want a place for 2 to sit and relax within the kitchen - we all eat at the dining table in the next room so this is just for hubs and me to chat after bedtime, a kiddo to sit and draw out of the way while I cook, etc. I'm thinking corner banquette but something else may work better with the fridge swing. It can happen after the kitchen is installed.

-I have a good cabinet maker (frameless) who will be doing the kitchen, so custom dimensions are easy.

The kitchen space is about 13' x 19' including the half bath space which we are taking; more measurements are in plan pics. Here is the CURRENT kitchen layout. Traffic straight through the middle, ick!, pantry cabinet in the skinny room on the right. I get my steps in.
