IMO to much matchy stuff like art and rug for instance. Too many pillows on the sofa and a space that looks like no one lives there. pretty room but art for me is what makes my space feel like home so we only ever buy art we love and never because it "Goes with" the room, htat just makes a space look like a hotel I love the rug but not any of that art .MY opinion is the space looks like you never use it so my advice start using it. Do drinks before dinner in there to start. I dislike the 3 pics in a group again much more hotel than lovely home . IMO something like this would add a totally different feel to the space not this exact piece but color .Choose art that makes you smile it makes world of difference in how you feel about a space .

I've a better idea..

Get rid of the couch, alternate the four chairs only around a nice big round cocktail table.

Put a tv in there, and add art to the big wall and USE the room.

My favorite that I like is the last ones with the three pictures of the art and I would use that one I see that you just got it on Prime is that correct.

We have five TVs in this house this is just for a few other comments.

Our house is quite large so we have a theater room downstairs with the I don't know how many inches of TV is 86 in.

I have the family room on the same floor as this living room with a fireplace another big TV 50 something maybe 60.

Super comfy.

This was part of the house as I mentioned I would never get a house with a living room again or a dining room however I'm working with what I have.

All I want to do is fix up this living room so that it looks half decent.

Both of the lamps that are in there came from CB2 and pottery Barn which I happen to like.

I love my carpet.

Pick that carpet to try to make the room look more casual.

If I could I would turn it into just a big Library room with two big easy chairs in it but I don't have a husband that is willing to do that for me he does not want that.

So I am totally out of luck with that

I am not changing my sofa that's sofa cost $15,000 it's not going anywhere. In real life it's a beautiful suede.

We just walked by when people come in the front door like I said we have a big big family room.

I happen to like cubism type of Art.

I like very odd art. Example two heads on a swivel.

I cannot get my husband to go along with that at least in that room.

I know already what I can do to make it very comfortable and my first choice would have been to have four big beautiful chairs with a round table in the middle.

That is not an option.

I'm going to stick with the art question.

I can help me with more suggestions on the art that would be great.

And just as a point of interest beside my family room I also have another big big room that has a wall to wall bookshelf to the ceiling and a desk in it with chairs.

This is room isof no importance at all it's a total waste of space.

If we were younger my husband would definitely build a library for me.

But we're not of that age now.

My husband is almost 80 he's too busy looking after other small things in this house.

Not certain Jan if you were just trying to be funny or if you were being sarcastic towards me.

But I do appreciate everybody's suggestions.

I just need to get some art up on the walls so the room doesn't look completely desolate.

Another thing I didn't know was whether with the rug that I have if I could put other art in there besides abstract or did it just not go with what's in there.

Before you begin to add the art IMO the furnishing positions need some tweaking. There's no rule about this but angled chairs across from angled chairs it perhaps more than this small space can take. I'd keep the larger gray lounge chairs at angles, but straighten the framed chairs at the window.

Also that floor lamp is IMO not in the best location. I would move it to the other side of the sofa. I'd add a tree at the window, lit from below/inside for some drama and texture to this room.

What's with all the pillows on this sofa that is almost too small for the room? Some of this have to be removed.

Everything in the room dwarfs that lovely coffee table. It would have been able to hold it's own if it had been square instead of rectangular.

I like Jan's suggestion for three pieces over the sofa. See below. I tride to place your squares piece behind the two tall lounge chairs, but I can't be sure that will work, and there's always the issue of glare when you have glass on the piece.

It really gives me an idea I'm not a very visual so it's hard.

The one that I had with the squares on it it's all different textures I'm just going to put it down in the basement in the hallway. It hasn't been anywhere for a couple of years so I just thought I would try to see if I could use it in the living room.

Also when you're saying that there shouldn't be two angle chairs across from two angled chairs. I'm just not 100% certain what that meant.

Also I see that you change the pillows for an idea for me that's perfect I can definitely take away a pillow or two.

I'm going out shortly but I'm going to do all of this when I get back I'm going to change the lamp over to the other side I'm going to get a plant there by the window.

It's not too close to the other lamp that I have to the left of where you place the floor lamp isn't I have a table lamp over on the other side of that.

The four chairs are drowning all else, the rug is great. If you don't sit? You don't need all four. Relocate or sell.

I absolutely love the rug! And I love all three art pieces, but agree that the square one is the wrong size for above the sofa. Beautiful room. I also have a seldom used living room. We make it a point to have cocktail hour in there periodically, just to enjoy the whole house. Yesterday, I actually took a nap in the living room! Comfy couch!

Isn't all of Houzz pretty much first world problems? How often to we read about people having space they have no use for and trying to decide what to put in it.

Not a pro ... but for me I would need some color in the art in that room, like the color in the dramatic art that Patricia suggested. For me the room now, as lovely as it is, has the overall feel of a stone quarry, all earthy neutrals with no contrast.

It's got lots of contrast, despite it is neutral..... just more need for proportion, and lessening of the matched chair effect of two pair. . A little wood in a console would not hurt on the wall at left, and it would add another texture.

The real point?

Rooms not routinely used are far harder to bring to life; you're forced to invent a purpose and the users, in an illusory manner at best..

Art is personal, three pieces, one piece, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

The cocktail table is a bigger offender than the OP may realize, it's diminutive size drowned by far heavier/bulkier chairs.

It's undoubtedly across a foyer from a dining room of infrequent use as well, in a house with " a lot of rooms. " where most of daily life is probably l lived at the back side of the house.

All she wants is something that doesn't disappoint her visually at the entry, and its importance or lack thereof is up to her: )

I wasn't being sarcastic earlier. It's just fact. A problem of too much house for the inhabitants, and yes, many would kill for the same problem as they navigate homes very small, with children underfoot.

SO? Take that left wall, butt three/four bookcases, (tall ) together and load it up! Give the chair an ottoman. Add curtain panels on a single rod, and make them full enough , just the left and right sides. Want texture? Trade the shutters for natural woven shades! or put a great grass cloth on the walls...or even change the paint. It's endless, really. Only the "user" can decide. It is either more than the walls, or it is not.
