I miss all the old school HGTV shows where they had trained designers on there and they walked viewers through how they approached a room - I learned a ton from them! I stopped watching that network years ago since all the shows are the same and there seems to be a lot of focus on how the hosts look

Agree with la_la, although once in a while I'll switch to hgtv and watch a show or two, if I have nothing else to watch or I'm at home sick!

I used to like Designing for the Sexes with Michael Payne and Designers' Challenge.

I used to enjoy a few of the shows. There was one where they compared finishes to see which afforded the most bang for your buck. People still HATE that linoleum counters won!! I loved a show where a designer showed us a super high end room then replicated it with items that were affordable. I don't recall the names of the shows. I think when you are young and just starting out with your first home, shows hit different. None of them have appealed for years. Then there were the shows with designers who were helping a homeowner with a room. I just love a good before and after. When the formula shows started I bailed. I don't care to hear even five minutes of the designers personal life. Just show me how they did what they did to the room/home in question. Soap operas are on other channels. Eventually you figure out the entire network is just one huge advertisement and they are pushing unrealistic design choices on the average homeowner. Not unlike many of the threads here.

Arcy, The High Low Design or something like that. Loved that show. She would design the room with the skynis themlimit budget and then recreate it on a realistic budget. My kind of decorating!

I pulled up an old show on youtube - forget the name but Joan Stephen did a room in one day for under $500. Soooooooo dated! Yes, i said ”dated”. Like adding bricabrac to lampshades and lots of busy fabric patterns. Had to laugh.

Room by Room and Clean Sweep were fun on HGTV and TLC. On Room by Room, Matt and Shari demonstrated lots of techniques that are still useful today, despite the show's dating back twenty to thirty years.

@Aphaea - divine design with Candace Olson was a favorite and agree with Designing for the sexes - Design on a dime was often a fun show as well
