Newest scrappy.

When I finished the last scrappy, I went through the pile of ‘maybe’s and came up with this one. it is called Double Strip Trip. It looked doable and not too complicated.

Well, no sooner have I said that, than I made it complicated!. It looks to me as if all those fabrics are solid or those that read as solids. Hurray, I have a pack of five fat quarters in primary colours.

When you try to copy a quilt without instructions, deciding on the correct size of pieces can cause severe headaches. This quilt says the blocks are ten inch blocks but for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out strip sizes. and when I did get it, the resulting block just looked tiny. So I redid it as a twelve inch. And I will not do on point but just set them straight.

I did sew the two coloured strips together this morning, will add the white tomorrow. my centres are a mid sized dot with all those colours. The rest should be not too complicated, says she with fingers crossed.

    Cute pattern, Theresa. I wonder if “10 inch square precut friendly” meant you could use a layer cake to make the strips. Like you, I think a 12” finished block is what is shown, using 1.5” x 8.5” strips and a 4.5” center block. I think your quilt with the dotted center square will look great.


    I just texted back and forth with my step-daughter, and we decided on a pattern and colors for her quilt. It should be quite simple, so it shouldn’t take too long.

      I did figure out the correct measurements for the 12” block but I never thought of that explanation of using the 10” precut, for the sizes.

      I tell you, sometimes I wonder how I ever got out of grade school.

      Theresa, I have seen that pattern and love it. I will be anxious to see your version. I have never done a quilt with an inset square. For some reason they scare the daylights out of me!

      So the blocks are made and yesterday, I laid them out using the side by side version. but oh, they looked so bland, flat and even boring. So I did the on point version and they were much better. Now the decision is about the setting triangles. Two options. the first using the white used in the blocks or secondly, use the dotted fabric used in the centre of each block. Decisions! Maybe I could take a couple of pictures and stare at them for a day or two!

      What kind of borders are you thinking about? I think that would impact my choice. It really looks nice so far.

      I decided on the white and have the setting triangles sewn to the block at the end of the row. Tomorrow, I hope to sew the separate rows and then the rows together. I will probably do a print border and binding.

      I also want to make some carrot jam. We will see how much I can get done.

      Well, this is taking longer than I thought. The top got sandwiched and I usually let it sit for a day or so while I look at it, trying to decide how to quilt it. After I decided, I am now in process of doing that quilting. Slow going, both me and the quilt. Another two sessions at least.

      At last! it is finished or as finished as it is going to get. There were a bazillion threads needing to be trimmed and then into the washer.

      The blue is the backing. Sure is a dotty quilt. And bright!

      PS Sue, doing a partial seam is a snap, if I can do it, you surely can. While I was scrolling Pinterest, trying to get to sleep last night, I came across someone who made the same quilt using softer, girly type fabrics. It was quite pretty. But I had two bones to pick with her. She did not acknowledge the original designer. .I felt she was claiming it as her own. Second bone was she kept calling this partial seam a ’y’ seam. That is a totally different seam.

      I have just joined the quilt police!!!. But she really was giving bad info.

      Nice finish, Theresa. I like the way the bold strips play against the small dots. I also like the dark backing. It’s making me wonder if I chose the right backing for this white quilt I’m making for my step-daughter. Sometimes I feel I should wait until the top is finished before choosing the backing.

      I love it, Theresa! And you are right in your pickiness. The original designer should be acknowledged (or the creator/poster should admit it’s not their design), and partial seams and Y seams are two different things, for sure!
