I would spray paint the whole basket and then use a small craft brush to paint the flower and center. You can use any spray paint. You can use the small paint jars from a craft store to paint the flower.

With opening and closing you may find the paint wears off.

It is pretty as is, but your right - doesn't go with the table.

I love crafting and paint a lot of things to better work in my space, but I wouldn't mess with this basket. I would find something new that works in the space and either use the basket elsewhere or let it find a new home.

Buy a round white napkin, like the kind you use for plates, with a texture like the basket. The diameter of the napkin is larger than the diameter of your basket. Place it on it and the argument with the table will disappear. Choose a shade of white that will go well with the flowers in the basket (warm white, but whiter than the flowers themselves).

Its a pretty basket, I would leave it alone and set it somewhere else, and find another that will work with your table. They are not difficult to paint. However, unless those flowers come off, I wouldnt even try. Its easier to find another basket and spray paint that if need be. A stiffer weave basket than what you have there, will also spray paint much nicer.

Don't know what colour you'd like to paint it but this is how it would look in black. If often lift the lid, it will probably show wear marks.

Etsy and Amazon have several similar small basket with lids.

I think Tachch is right something under it may do the trick. Maybe a black tray with low sides to pick up the black of the picture frame. No to painting it.

It does not look like an expensive basket. I suspect by the time you've bought the paint, you'll have spend a decent percentage of the cost of replacing it.

I would try dye rather than paint. The flowers will likely take the dye differently than the basket so you would be able to preserve some contrast.

So many nooks, crannies that I don't think painting is a good idea.

Keep it as is IMO it is fine to hav different things not all match it adds some interest in a space .

Agree with Patricia. Matching is overrated.

On another note, what a great desk--hubby made it??? Wow!
