I don’t find it particularly weedy - if anything, the seeds drop fairly closely and add to the already growing clim. That being said, I have noticed the odd small seedling a few feet away over the years - not a big issue at all. I think one year I was a little more proactive and harvested all the seeds and pushed them into the surrounding ground as I wanted to bulk up the clump.

Hm.. Well I don't need anymore enlarging of the clumps by seedlings. So I guess I'll just see how it goes. Might have to end up taking some out. Glad someone has some info on it.

they tend to have very accurate descriptions and to point out whether something "reseeds abundantly" or just ocasionally,

the Carex grayi is said to reseed just ocasionally

Yes, I would definitely put this very low on the reseeding or spreading list. This is one of my favourite grasses actually - tough and attractive.

laceyvail, that post is from my friend Mike, who's in my native plant group. He's had many years of experience with many native sedges, so I trust his word. All the Carex species that Ive grown have increased in size by the clump expanding. They eventually get too big, and need fo be divided.

Expanding is to be expected. But it's the seeding I'm really concerned about.

I don't have experience with this variety of Carex, but I have had a Carex buchananii for over a decade. I love mine. It's not everyone's taste because it is a coffee color all season. It expands but not a huge amount. I have not divided mine. And it does reseed, but...very gently. I seem to always be happy to see another new seedling. I realize different varieties perform differently but for what it's worth....
