Can this lamp be transitional?

FBM has 2 of these Stiffel lamps listed for $80 (for both). I assume they are from the 70s but the ad does not say how old they are. I have been looking for 2 lamps that are transitional. Can these ever be anything other than strictly traditional? Is the brass too shiny? Perhaps a black drum shade would put a good spin on them??

These are also on FBM ($50 for both). Black drum shades may work on these too.

These are the ones that i really love that are at my local antique shop. These are $180 each. Do either of the 2 above come close to being as nice as these?

All three sets of lamps seem VERY traditional. Adding black shades isn’t going to change that. I’d pass on these….

Let me start by saying that I just re-arranged this room so it's a work in progress. Also, everything in the room (with the exception of the lamps and the mirrors) is from estate sales, FBM, or from my parent's house when they downsized. I prefer old things to new things when it comes to furniture but don't consider my taste to be "traditional". I like things to be bit mixed up and interesting. The lamps that are there now are no good.

I like the second pair best for your space. Don't get too caught up on labels - transitional, traditional. You have a bit of both, which really makes your space electic. I don't think black shades are what is needed in this room though.

Agree with Kendrah -- but now that you have posted pics, if labeling the style, I would consider the room to be more traditional than transitional. Still, not sure why you are considering those lamps, though. There are so many better choices out there at reasonable prices…
