Scoop a tablespoon of your yard dirt into a zip loc bag. That's the color for a carpet that will not show dirt paths.

IMO the chevron pattern is more interesting for the stairs.

Had this installed a few months ago. Love the herringbone pattern. Doesn’t even show the hair from my black dog.
